Yet the Confederate have done th'w. It is now ascertained that tliey are pohteJ in force along the Itapi Jan and Ilappahanr.ock rivers, where they will, undoubtedly, give battle to our advancing army. It is more than likely, too, that a large portion of their force, quite equal in strength to IJurnside'a whole army, have been rapidlv tran.portel down the railroad to Suffolk and ft eldon, and will attack Uurn-ide, with the intention of cutting him oiT from his ships, and defeating him or comj-el-ling him to surre. der. Money they have none of consequence, because the great bulk of real monev tliev had Ins been sent away to Europe to purchase arms and munition. of war, and to the North to buy too 1. It is a well known fact that thequmtity of gold or silver in the hands uf the people of the South never wa larue, as ther are generally an agricultural people and their business was done through their factors und all on credit, and the latter made their exchange through the North, so that their cotton and other crops must first be brought to market before any trading can be done; and not only tins but the bitter feeling which nowevident ly exists must be quieted down to some extent.
