Fbchtipioitatiox Herrmann, the Prince of Magicians, glve one of hi world renownel entertainment at Masonic Hall, on Tun lay evening next. He has been the apecial friend of many of the sovereigns of Kurope, more particularly of the late King of the French and the present Em poror of Austria. He L a nun of einul trly varied and discursive intellect. He is a member of gome of the leading scientific associations in the world. He is an artist of but it would be difli cult to fay what he U nut. Let us content ouraelves by aying that he i. a worthier than Cag liostro. This w faid advisedly. That wliich

Cagliostro asserted he would do, as an impostor

agency, Herrmann does by natural means. At all events we will have au opportunity to see and judge for ourselves. M. Herrmann is accom

as he performs in Louisville on Wednesday en

M LTRoroLiT a x Hall. We have attended the theatre two evenings to witness Miss Charlotte

Thompson's delightful rendition of Camille, an

embodiment of artistic beauty w hich we never

saw excelled by the most famous artiste, from the moment she enters upon the scene until the

curtain falls at the et I of the last act. The au

dience were he'd pt' bound by the intense in

terest which jdic ihrov s around the play. Her

first act is lull of refreshing and natural changes

from the gayest mirth and playfulness to deep

feeling, which brought smiles and tears ca .-h in

their turn. As the plot dcvelope itself Miss Thompson's great dramatic powers have the op

portunity for full display, and the artiste's ex

OjUisite pathos thrills the hearts of even the most

impenetrable.

To-night the beautiful romantic pi ty of Ingo-

son's peculiar line, and the spirited Greek maid en could not have a better or more lovely repre

tentative. With a figure as light and graceful

as that of a gazelle, a face from which intellectu

ality beams forth witli surpasing luster; each

movement, each gesture, each look enchants all beholders. This is the last night but two of Miss Thompson's stay among us, and none should neglect an opportunity to sec thi beautiful and unapproachable young actress. We promise the citizen of Louisville, to which place Miss Thompson goes from here to fullfil an engagement, that titer have a rioh treat in store for them. O Since commencement of the war the three

Parsox Alm.x. A numoer of tho rebel pns oners now confined in this city were members of Parson Allen's congregation in She!b vide, Tculics&ee. ' Mr. Alien, it will fa remembered, was formerly pastor of the 0! lS.!i ol Presbjteri in church in this city. The members of hisiShelbyville flock above nioiitione-l are unanimous in their statement that he was an out and outSeces sionist. He talke! and acted secession from first to lat. It was understood that he was open to conviction ou a position as Chaplain of the regiment, and had an apMii.tin!it to preach at the camp on one occasion before the Shelbyvilie company man bed to the general rendezvous. Mrs. Allen, we are h ippy to learn, was uncompromisingly for the Union, and the Union dinner party, which it will be remembered was givesi at the parsonage, was an entertainment of her own, to which the Uiroii members of the congregation were alone invited. Nothing but the peculiarly delicate state of her health prevented her leaving Tennessee. Isifi y He Jon r.

j' S caking of our Railroad regiment at Donelson, the Aurora Commercial says: There was no "reversing" or ".switching off," but when brought to face the enemy the boys "went in" w ith an "open throttle." The reports trom the Hospitals at Cairo aro encouraging exceedingly. Only seven lu lianians are sick at that point. All the wounded, belonging to the armies of the North, are, ac cording to report, doing admirably. The utmost attention is shown them. Their friends and relatives may rest assured of this, a fact which we havo learnt at the Executive office.

The rebel organs say they only lost 7,t00

prisoners at the taking of Fort Donelson. Ti e fact is there are over 5,001) of these prisoners in Indiana, 4.45Ü in Chicago, together with large numbers at St. Louis and Alton, and upwards of 800 officers sent to Columbus. In addition to

this there were afajut a thousand of their wounded. The number of prisoners who fell into our hands cannot be less than fourteen or fifteen thousand. DkATIIS OF l.LBtL SoLDItRS. Southern .. 15a i.timürk, March 5. A letter from Fortress Monroe, published in the Amraican of this city, says that esletday':1 Richmond Di'patch au nouiices that the steamer Nashville came direct froui Southampton to the North Carolina coast, and approached the blockading vessel with the Union Hag. The Nashville went up directly under the puns of the blockading vessel, almost within hailing distance, and then, passing her. raised the rebel Hag and moved directly towaids Fort Macon. The blockading vessel immediately discovered the deception and started in pursuit of the Nash villc, and followed her until within rane of the guns of Fort Macon. Several shuis weie fired at the Nashville but she reports, that no body was hurt. She claims to have biou"ht into Wilmington

a valuable cargo of both bank note and printing pajcr. The Richmond Dispatch calls attention to the mysterious writing on the wall indicating that Union conspirators ate at woik. Among these w ritings Hie the following: Attention Uuion men. Watch and wait. The Union forever. The day is daw ning. The hour of deliverance approaches. It was these significant announcements that caused the arre.-t ot John Minor Rotts and twenty other suspected citizens of wealth, character and position and the proclamation of martial law. The Richmond Dispatch urges summ try measures lor che king the progress of treason and advocates the arrest and execution of the conspirators. It was thought that Cols. Corcoran and Wilcox would now be held as hostages for Gens. Rucknet and Tighlman, but this was merely rumored. Cols. Corcoran and Wilcox and other'Fcderal prisoners have reached Richmond. There was a great panic at Richmond which was caused by the recent defeats of the rebels. The Ie;uling traitors exhibited the greatest terpidation. FoKTRKssj MoxnoK. March 4 A fl ig of truce was scut to Craney Island to day but no passengers returned. Atlanta, Oa., Feb. iW. The Confedtractf this morning slates that General Dushrod Johnson escaped from Foit Donelson and reached Murfree.sboro last Sunday. Heavy rains have recently fidlen and the roads from Xashvilie are preatly damaged. The Richmond Dispatch says Colonels Corcoran and Wilcox and other Federal prisoners to the number of one hundred arrived here on Friday from Columbia, South Carolina, and are awaiting transhipment to Newport News. They how ever may not start for several w eeks to come as the arrangements for sending them away have not been completed. Col. Wilcox is the officer who acted as Military Governor of Alexandria when it was firet occupied by the Federals. It is reported from Richmond that Johu Minor Rotts has been attested and thrown into prison for manifesting Union proclivitUs. Minister Adams responded to the toast "The memory of Washington." GutAr Rait.tix. Iu the House ol Commoiis on the i'Jih inst., Mr. O'Dono-hue -noted lor a return ol the I tri t Uli vessels of their captains and owners respectively, that have succeeded iu running the American blockade. Also, lur similar returns of Kritish vessels cap tured or destroyed in the attempt to break the blockade, and icturn of the number of Kritish vtvsfcU that hate put into Naau and other colonial ports, with contrabands ot" war, and supples for the Confederate Slates, and that have U..n pet milted t re tit and upply themsolte at tue.-e places in contravention of the CJueen' proclamation of neutrality. He strongly cens ired the Got eminent for u t hating taken actite steps to prevent the breaches of neutrality by Kritish shi. Mr. Ledyard said that it would be scarcely convenient that he should enter into the discu siou of the blackade, which would come ou more regularly when there was a solution of it, of which notice had been given. He must decline therefore to consent to the return for two rea sons; in the firt place, the Government had not yet the information sought for, and, in the wund place, if they had, it would not be their oflice to furnish a list of wrong doers and violators of the law. The papers relative to the blockade would probably be hud mi the table on the 2 lib or Cötn instant, and would contain a statement of the number of vessels wb'ch had broken the blockade, and perhaps their tonn ige, and he hoped the information would atisly O'Donohue. The Solicitor Generv I explained the misapprehension of Mr. O'Djnohue, and said that private

vessels might carry contraband of war, but at their own risk, and if detected they 'must abide the c )iiseip:ences. In Parliament Mr. McGuire called the attention of the House to the serious disasters at present existing in Ireland. Sir Robert I'eel in replj refuted Iiis assertions, and in the course of his remarks aid that no more remarkable poof of the alu-ence of urievance existed than that whicli occurred the other when there was danger of a rupture with America. Ire land was full of American emmissaries trying to raise up a spirit of disloyalty. Advices from Manchester are favorable. The market for goods and yarns was quiet with an upward tendency. From York. Nlw York. March 5. The stcimer Erricsson arrived from Port Iloyal on the 1st hist, with 320 bales of cotton and 14D passengers. The steamer Cosmopolitan bad arrived with & Connecticut regiment. A passenger fiom Savannah reports 30,000 rebel troops there. Other new s is rather meager and being contraband is not used. Samuel P. Morrill, convicted of killing a secession traitor, this fall, was to d ly sentenced to two yens' imprisonment. It is reported that the the sentence was passed in order that pardon could be sooner granted.
