"We will fuiUain with all our energies a war i for the maintenance of the Constitution, and of tlie Integrity of the Union undtr the Conttitution, but we are opposed! to a war for tlie emancipation j of the negroes, or the suhjugation of the South-1 em State." j Tlie Journnl is the oran of the Republican jtftrty of Indiana, and we suppose reflects its sen tinienta. The pwition announced in the platform : of the bth of Januar j convention in the extracts J we have quoted is identically that which the j Journal has over and over a'ain deliberately an- j nounced a.s tlie objects and purposes for which tlie war rhould be prosecuted. It not only takes j this position, but it declarer that it would consent j to a separation from the rebel States. On the 13th of November, 1?G0, it commenced a scries' of articles upon the disunion movements in the
oouiu, nnu wuicu it continueii in tue name Fp'.ru for fcvenil months. In its issue of that date, referring to "the parade of military organizations, and forcible resistance," then making in several of the Southern States, it said: "They know ?ery well that if they are determined to leave the Union, no Republican will cart to have them stay. If South Carolina und her associates in folly really want to leivethe Union, they can go without word of objection from any man North of Mason and Dixon's line. We would not turn our hand over to have them stay if they must stay with the feeling of hostility and distrust which they proclaim as the only feeling they can ever hold toward the North: We Ji not hrlievt in reiistin? any rcntlnn more men! in the lent. Thore aho lliink the Union too bad for them to endure, are just those the Union can best do without. Let all go who want to, we say. and let thern go quietly." We can produce a large u umber of extracts from the same paper, after this date, and during the winter following, of the same import, and more strongly expressed. On the 21st day of la.t August, more than fi'ur month after hostilities had commenced, this same Journal said: "We are not lighting to subjugate any body, hut init'iY to resist an ntteaipt by force of arms to subvert our Government. If they (the reikis) will lay down their Arms and come now to the nation for permission to separate, w e shall again mv "tw," for we hare ttrn no rrason to change the rietet ire adroealtd last winter." This is the record of the Journnl, speaking for the Republican party of Indiana, a print which is daily charging disloyalty and treason upon all who nre not Abolition Republicans and who solemnly declare that they are "utterly opposed to Southern secession" and "will sustain with all their energies a war for tlie maintenance
I' the Constitution and of the integrity of the Union, under the Constitution,"! which the Republican organ says is the olject of' the war. The Democratic Convention declared that it wai for maintaining the integrity of the i Union, under the Constitution, br.t the Journal, : before the war, was wiling that the Government ' should le disrupted without resistai.ee, and now i it is willing that the rebel States -hall sep irate 1 from the balance, if the rebels w ill lay down their art'.is and ask permission to go. Upon its on t.uid.rd of judgment is not the ; Journal guilty of disloyalty and treason to the ' G eminent? The meanest Seces-inist in the rtbcl States is more honorable in comparison ,

This ne 1 1riT went into operation on the 1st of April. lGl, audcotccouently the manufai turers had but three months olits benefits before declaring their July dividend. The.e profits aie large, and tl ey indicate ho i.s profiting by the war. Contrast lie profits made by thee manufacturers with those of the agricultural portion of the Community. Te!.rtive millions of New Ei.glat.d capital reiping a rich harve-t during a time of civil war, which the farmers ol the country are burning their crops for fuel. The hole nation has been taxed by this odious tariif to benefit a comparative handful of capitalist. It wiil be rememhered that the census of 1-.70 give the whole number of slaveholders in tl.e country at 317,000, and the ast in ijor ity of thoe ownel but a le ?hives It was urged vvitli great force from the pulpit, pre arid Mump that the-e 347,l;O0 si iveholders controlled and d rected the whole p!icy of the National Government, and that all tilings were made sub ordidate to their interests. IJut the Morrill tariff erects even a more odious oligarchy. The $2.7,. (100,1)00 of capital invested in thee manufacturing establishments are held jos.-ibIy I) less than :7,0!M) prsons. And for the benefit of these :7,000 per ons the people ol the United Slates are taxed 30 per cent. ujii the necessary articles of domestic u-e. and the agriculturists deprived of in i k ft for tloir piodurtions. The importations under the Morrill tariff arc beccssiirily Miialler than they would be under a tariff that in vites foreign manufactures. The maiket for our products is to a like ettent abridged, because if Enirlish and French manufacturers are excluded, American breadstutrs and provisions arc only exjorted to meet indispensa. b!e neves-it ic.s. It our market was open to the manufactures of the world at a reasonable rate of duty, we would have the m okcts of Eutot e filled with our breadstuff. The exc hange of commodities would be reciprocal, und the American fanner would have at least a demand f'oi his crops. Rut that unfortunate tarill got up for the exclusive benefit of about twenty thousand capitalists in the Eastern States, has tlo.-ed the door to cheap manufactures, and per conseq lence nearly abolished our foreign m irket for home produc tions. Europe buys no more of American grain and provisions than she can help, and the reison is that the United States, to gratify a few c a pi talists, has closed tl.e door to foreign manufactures. Nor is this the only evil resulting from the tariff. It has seriously affected business in France and England, und, more than anything else, has turned the sy mpathies of the people and governments of those countries against us. They look u;x)U the disruption of the Union as opening to them an extensive market for their manufactures. They have long since figured out that, with the South a art independent nation, and fiee trade as its guiding principle, the great agricultural West will not continue many years to pay tribute to the oligarchy of Eastern capital, in the shape of heavy duties on foreign fabrics. With British cottous and woolens selling at Lou isviSle and St. Jouis 30 per cent, cheaper than they can be had at New York and Philadelphia, thoe foreign governments do not suppese the West will turn aside from the cheaper markets to pay tribute elsew here. It is our candid opinion that the present tariff has done more to secure the rebel cause sympathy and favor in Europe than anything eNe. It was folly it was criminal stupidity to have enacted such a tarirT tit such a time, and we do not know but that Congress would be doing a wise action now to re-tore the tariif to the old rates that existed prior to 157. Chcaia I'oxt.

From the (Tnciimati Price Current, Jan. 22. Financial and Commercial Summary for the I'ait Week. An arrangement made between the Secretary of the Treasury and the committee representing the bankers and merchants of New York in the early part of the week, h.id a most salutary effect upon financial a flairs in New York, and produced a marked decline in gold and teilirrg exchange. This vrr ingement is, h brief, as follows: There are to be no more demand Treasury notes issued than the fifty million authorized in July, but in-tead thereof United States seven threetenth stock to the amount of three hundred million 4nllar; that is. the financial policy of last winter is to fie extended and continued. This arrangement does not seem to come up to the ideas of the Committee of Ways and Means, and it may not, therefore, be carried out. The improvement consequent upon this, in money matters, has extended to us, and the feeling in our monev market, throughout the week, ha? been
far better than it was the previous week, there j being more confidence, (old declined to 2 prent., I and not in much demand, - though at the close) 21., prern. was aked, under the advices of an j advance of (n:1. prern. in New York. j A bill has passed the Legislature of this St.de j permitting the batiks to suspend s: ecie pavment,

W e are p!ea-el to inform the Istljrr men that the Democracy from the Southern part of the
State were consulted and every delegate from the First Congressional District" voted in favor of making the nomination. Tl.e Fjtdjrr further fays, which ought to be satisfactory to it; "The central clique who called the Convention in the hope of being able to control the nominations for theu;elves hav e been sadly disappointed. The Breckinridge faction, who, alter destroying the unity of the Democratic party, and declaring that the election of Lincolu was preferable to that of Douglas, had the impudence to ask tlie Democracy of Indiana to give them the most important offices, are left out in the cold. Hiving failed to get the nominations we shall now eee the extent of their love for the 'Democratic organization, ' about which they have prated so much." ' It appears that the editor of the Isd.jer is not
satisfied, witn trie nominations because some Hreckir.ridge man was not put on the ticket, and becau-e of the "great unanimity existing in the Democratic party throughout the entire State. We would like to know what e::se there would have Leen in meeting in Convention and making a platform and then postpone the nomination of candidates.- Stich a course was never heard tell of in a Democratic Convention before. C2f" And Col. Dunham, whose regimei.t is already at the seit of war, he wanted nominations
postponed for a fev months! But it wouldn't do;
nor was he permitted to say a few words in behalf of the army and the war. Krnnstille Jour. Col. Dunham did speak. He w as the last man that uttered a word in the Convention. In the last sentence of his speech w ere these words: "That he believed as much as he believed tliat he had an existence in the w orld, that if this Gov ernment w as ever reunited again to its once proud and lofty position among the nations of the earth, that it had to be done by the good old Democratic party." Which is the true sentiments of ninetenths of all the people now in the loyal States. Tlie Craw fords ville Kecinr says: In this week's issue we hoi-t the names of the Democratic nominees, selected by the Convention held at Indianapolis on theSth. Wepri'M'.me every Democrat and conservative man in tlie State is anxious that the ticket should friumr.h, and right here we wish to impress upon the minds of many of our old-liiie friends in this county, as well as throughout tie State, that to insure success we must have harmony. The practice of denouncing every Democrat whose ideas concerning the rebellion do not square exactly with his i.eighhrs, must cease, or we shall bo divided
ind ignouiiniously defeated. It is a I ict that all
Democrats do not agree in regard to the many issues that h ive grown out of this lamentable civil war, but in tlie great cardinal principles of the party there is no disagreement whatever. We believe, in common with every true Democrat, in using every effort to crush out this damnable conspiracy, and under no circumstance will we ever consent to a dismemberment of the Republic. With the restoration of the Democratic partv to power we arc sanguine that the nation will yet survive the tempest that is usn her and again restore the Union of the States. The influence of the conservative element of the country is making itself felt upon the present Administration. Cameron, the advocate of arming the negroes, has been dismissed from the President's Cabinet, and Mr. Stanton, AttorneyGeneral under Mr. Ruchanau's reime, called to fill the position of the Secretary of War.
