The first volume o ajeaera. liavin A llord'a work com a n. an excellent and copious index, which to every practicing lawyer in the tftei Itself worth the money which the volume costs. The volume under review cod tain another excellence til it paare are supplied with valuable marginal indices, ho that a glance at -he mar'n is .ulllck nt to apprise the eader of the coiiten a of the page. Another matter of great importance to the lawyer in this volume is a good collection of the subjects cf all legislation sir.re lvil. Heretofore, the lawyer in examining our legislation on any given uliject had first to find what wa relevant to it in the Revision ol lrt&'J, and then to turn over the p4KP f the volumes of subsequent Statutes, tn aee how far recent legislation may have repealed or mud'fied the provi.-ion cotitainetl in that Revision, and even then be would often feel doubt whether he had found ail the legislation on the subject of hi imiuiry. Men. (javiu and llord have relieved u.s of all tins trouble and doubt. They have collected together in consecutive page, all the statutes made since ls51. on the same subject. Thus, on paes 373 to J77 of their first volume they have collected all our legislation, now in force, on the subject o buhand and wife, inr biding the act of 1So3 and three act of 1VJ7. And they have followed the same mode o: co. ocation, iu appropriate consecutive page, in regard to all other topic of legislation. A still more va'jahk feature are the copious and accurate notes contained in the volume in nue-tion. This volume include the Constitution of the United States, tbt. Constitution of Indiana, ami several important acts ol Virginia and statute. of Congress, and a large portion o our ow n statutes now in force. The numerous decision o the Courts on the various provision coutained in these Const i latinos and statute are found at the bottom of the appropriate pages, in the form cf neat, brief and accurate noteand refennices. Messr. Gavin A llord seem to have performed thi part of their work exceedingly well. It must have cosd them much care and labor. By It thry have grratly leened the lalwr of the practising lawyer, and have well merited hta giateful approval. In every respect the volume under review is highly r, ditable to the dil!i?rnce, accuracy, talents and the taste o its editors, a well a to the mechanical skill and neatnest of its publisher., aud it must raise the just expectation oi the prt fes-siou, as to the value of the second volume, w htch we understand will le forthcoming in a few months, and which will contain the code of pleading and practice o 1V2, with sshsequent amendments and other statutes. A Mail Train will leave Indianapolis at 11:05 A.M., stop at all stationa and make close connection at Kokonm w ith train on the Cincinnati and Chicago Air Line Railroad, and arrive at Chicago at 7:'X F. M., aixl IV ru at 3-(K) F. M., in time to make connections with trains on the Fort Wayne Railway, going East and Wet. Returning, the same train will leave Peru at 5 A. M. on the arrival of train on the Fort Wayne Railway from the East, and arrive at Indianapolis at Sr. 00 A. M., in time to make connection for all points East, South aud West.
