Tell them, thould any of them fall in tiefe ho of that banner, God atid their country will not be unmindful of their scrKea. , Tell your Color Bearer, as his is a pot of danger, that the ladies of Wabash county h ive con fidence in his courage, and. that they hope on aome future Fourth of July when peace shall be re-tored and the Union preserved to ?ee that fame memorable banner, so sorely de.-t'med to make a history of its own, ns we ndvanee, having gone pafely through the war, neer dishonored, but evermore covered with jrlory, Urne in j ro cession, and universally greetel as an object of piilc and grululation. Colonel, accept these regimental colors, so honorable to the generous hearteil patriotism f the ladies of Wabash county with us, the banner county of Indiana. May we all live to j-te them rcturnthl to their hands, with the proud nshrance that their tru-t has been well placed, and that each having performed faithfully n soldier's duty, may calmly await the soldier's reward. COL. SLACKS AtCHTAMCr. Chaplain Saw y tu: lit behalf of the 47th regiment of Indiana Volunteers, I accept the beauli ful flag which you hare presented from the generous Hii l pafriott: ladies of the county Wubash, and through ron to ihetn do I, in the name of the regiment, extend the nio.-t heaitfeit thanks und gratitude for this, their most welcome donation. It is the tlag of Washington ; the llig of Madison; the flag of Jackson; the flag of our country our whole country; the Hag under which dec Is of daring valor have been enacted upon many a battle field, in establishing and sustaining American liberty and American Independence. Around it cluster so many fond and cherihcd recollections of the past; so many bright and sparkling hopes of the future, that I foci a confidence in saying there is not a soldier belonging to this regiment whose soul is inspired witliauy other feeling than that of patriotiejore and veneration for this, the ensign of American hope and American nationality, and under it, in this contest, the murderous hand of treason shall be staved, the assassin's, dagger parried, and American" ficudom established upon a firm it nhd more reliable foundation. Under its inspiring and soul cheering influence will we "SfrlVe for rur altars am! ntir flrrsl Strike till tlip l;it arituM f.- expire! Strike for the cr'eii graven if our ifreI (iod! and our native lamb" And when we reflect that it is not only the ensign of American liberty, but lias been committed to our custody by the patriotic ladies of Wulush county, each and every one of whom has burning within her brcat that fire of patriotic love and devotion inherited from a noble atid gallant an
cestry, which always characterized the matrons of
our common country, I think 1 am sate in plcdg
iug to the fair donors, in beh df of the regiment,
that on every battle field, come success or defeat,
come what will ,this flag shall be upheld and sustained, and around iLs standard will we rally in defence of the rights of loyal American citizens everywhere. For this object and none other havo we left home, family, and near and cherished friend , and no act of dishonor or cowardice shall ev er tarnish its soul inspiring folds. All that I ask in making good thce pledges is the co operation and aid of each and every soldier of this regiment, and I know that they will be most heartily given. Again, Chaplain, do I return, through you, to the ladies of Wab.isli county, in the name of the 17th regiment, the mo&t profound and heartfelt gratitude, for this generous bestowal. Scrgeaiit Lindsey, von have been selected ns the prncipal color sergeant of the 47th regiment, and you have been been appointed to that jmtion because of your well kuowu coolness, courage nn I discretion in tivery trving emergency. W bile the .t which has been assigned you its one of the most honorable character, vet it" is ono of d.mgrr and reponsilility. Into your hand ate eonimitte! the colors whtcli the ladies of Wabnsh county hive so generously given us. You are a citizen of that county; the patriotic donor will look to vou to bear ii aloft u;on every battle field, through'evcry try ing scene. 1 know the confidence which has been repoed in you will not be abused.. Shis or thk Bid Hoor skikt. The proprietors of tl.'.s dry goods establishment, situated on West Washington street, just east of the Palmer House, arc illustrating what energy, application to business ami good management can accomplish.
Lynch k Krabe commenced htisinrss but a short time ago in a contracted room and with a small
Hock. From this moderate beginning thev havo
gradually enlarged, and we prophecy their establishment will keep on growing until it rivals the mammoth concerns of the city. The secret rf their success is that "Spure Lynch know s just what will suit the trade and where nnd how to purchase to the best advantage. And in addition to this all customers are treated with similar courtesy. With such advantages nnd such accomplished salesmen as Captain Moriarty, who almost anticipates just the w ants of tho purchaer, it is not a nutter of surprise that this establishment is grow ing so rapidly in popular favor.

yeslctday, we learn that th second rctl invaio'i ot' Kasterti Kentucky baa ended iu a disgrace! til route. . , ' On Monday' last Col. Garfield's force, including the 21th Ohio, 10tl Kentucky- and l,5f00 cavalry, liad proceeded up llig H.indy to Paintsjville, within seven miles of theicbcl camp when they were met by a lla of truce bearing a mesb.ige from Humphrey Marshall asking if matters could not be arranged without a fight. Col. Garfield immediately replied he could offer no arrangement except either to fight or surrender unconditionally Marshall then siddrcs-ed his men informing them that they had no other alternative excepting to' hurrendcr or disband, ami giving them the choice. They decided to disband, aud immediately collected and set fite to all their wagons, tents, camp" equipage, supplies, &c, then each man was pci mittel to take care of himself, and the whole force scattered in confusion. d attempt was made to sav e any thing excepting their cannon, which were hauled off. Col. Garlield dispatched hi cavalry in pursuit; they expert to captutc the guns and erhaps pick up many of the living rebels. The rebels in Northeastern Ky., from the high estimate iu which Humphrey Marshall's military ability was held, had tdaong hope of succesa under bis leadership. A sufficient Federal force will be left in this region to secure its futuro eace and safety. From Washington. Wamjinoton, Jan. 11. The skirmish of Cap t. Russell at Hath was a brilliant affair. He had been detailed from General Kelly' command with tw o regiments of infantry and two squadrons of cavalry and was stationed at Bath. On the approach of Gen. Jackson with COO or H00 rebels his scoots gave him notice. He w-s six miles from the Potomac river. He took the infantry and went about two miles and posted them as skirmishers in a dense wood. The cavalry was left to engage the advance of the enemy. An exchange of shots was the consequence of the enemy's advance under Turner Ashley, of guerilla notoriety, who came on and fell into the amhuscado. Capt. Russell lost seven horses, and kept eleven of the enemy 'a, and rctinsl with bi whole force across the Potomac, with a loss of only two 'men, who were drowned in crossing. Tina is ronidered one of the most brilliant movements of the war.
