Tub Cmioiuim Piano Pome.—Wa have received from Mcaere. The description of the manufactory ieelaborate and very interacting, as ahowlng the perfection of the median ical art of the country. They employ 300 men and finish 35 pianos per week, and yet they are nnable to keep up with
the demand.
Muirs. Willard A Stowell have just received a supply of fhs floe-toned instruments manufactured at this establishment. ViaotNM Canal.—Our attention has frequently been called to the condition of Virginia Drain, otherwise called "CottraU’s Canal," with a request that w# would Jog the memory of the Counoll to regard to it. In its present condition it Is a trap, and It la a marvel that lives have not been sacrifiued by it long ago. It will be remembered that the City Connoil cut a large ditch on East street t« chanjjjP the course of Virginia river (eo called) to prevent the overflow of private property. A portion of East street, south of South street, is a high embankment to the bed of the run not wider than the tow path of a canal, and its sides washed by the waters of the drain In flood time. This narrow and daogerona sheep path is the only outlet to a portion of tha city, that but lor this miserable excose for a street would Improve rapidly. We learn that the citisens to this tabooed neighborhood have repeatedly petitioned tke Council to have something done with this dangerous past, without being able to get the least attention paid to them. Why is this sol The State Faie —We learn that the oitisene of New Albany and the ompany that have the business in charge are making unremitting efforts to make the comieg State Fair, to be held in that city, superior to any yet held in tbeState. The impression is general that they will snceee4 Every facility possible will be afforded to enabtt ethlbitors and visitors to reach the ground eedk venlently and cheaply. With a view to this end the New Albany and Salem, and the Indianapolle and Terre Haute Railroad Companies are erect log a switch and station-honae, at their crossing near Greeocaetle, so that can loaded any place in the Statejnay be run through to New Albany without change. Mr. Bradley, the Superintendent, Is untiring to hie efforts to have his department fully up to the stindard of the times, and as a large crowd is expected, that they shall not be disappointed. A meeting of the Executive Committee le called by the President to be held on the Fair Grounds on the first of September. 9TA correspondent in this day’s paper gives a gloomy picture of the prospects of the "Indiana Academy of Science." We have watched the progress of this Institution with considerable interest. Its shott history would be an Instructive lesson and not very creditable to the "city of Churches." Th e society committed a grave error at tha start, and this, together with the indifference of this pious community to each eatyects as a scientific amoeiatioh would dieeuas, may be traced ite downfall. Inetead of easting about and putting soma men who loved science for her own eake, at the heed of the society, the members were blinded by a nama and conferred its chief honors on a man who never loved ,nything but himself. Satisfied with the empty honor, the empty head fell bsek on ite digaltv, and the remit could be nothing else but failure Boeder Citv Hoese Exnieitiov —At Piqoa, Ohio, they are to have n grand eihibition of horses, competition open to tho world, commencing on the 30th of Augintsud lasting t iree days. BTWe often hoar of "Young America," as going a little ahead of tbe rest of mankind, but Young Canada is coming up. A carriage containing four juveniles, Mo oldest of whom waa nine and the youngest Jive rears of ago, was •topped on the Canada tide of Me river opposite Detroit on Sunday, and an investigation made into some circumstances which looked suspicious, when it was found Mat Me youngsters were from Melden, from which place they Had absconded in an establishment belonging to the father of the oldest, an extensive leather mannfactorer. They left Malden before dinner, and had traveled twenty milco without anything to eat, except some apples which they plundered from somebody’s orchard on the way. They said they were going to Detroit, where they intended to sell the norse and buggy, and with the proceeds go on Meir travels. They had no money, and had secured a quantity of apples in the bottom oi the boggy, as a dernier resort in case they got nothing else to cat Their plan was that tbe horse and themselves might live on Mo apples until something turned np, when they proposed to sea wbat could be done in tbe way of getting out into Mo world. They were detained in Windsor to await Mo arrival of their parents from Mal-

Mr. LaMountaln has made arrangements wiM parties from New York, by which they agree to furnish him all the money he requires to build a balloon and necessary apparatus for his voyage across tbe Atlantic. He wHl commence the work of construction at Lansiogburgh in a few weeks. The balloon will be seventy-five feet In diameter, and is to be made of silk manufactured expressly for it. Its cost will not be less than $5,000; that of the "Atlantic" was but $2,300. Meanwhile the torn balloon is being re-con-strneted into one forty feet to diameter, and an ascension willje made from Watertown with it
on the lllh of August.

TH
HOSTETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS.
a
It is fo foci that, at some period, every mer.i biff of tho human family is subject to disease Off disturbance of the bodily functions; but, with th* aid of n good tonic and the exercise of plain common sense, they may be able so t o regulate tbe system as to secure permanent h^wHfc Tm order to accomplish this desired object, toe true course to pursue is certainly jhet which will produce a natural state of thlnga at the least hazard of vital strength and life. For this purpose, Dr. Hostetler Las introduced to this country a preparation bearing hfe Wtma^ which is not a new medicine, but one that bas been tried for years, giving saiMW tion to all who have used U. The Ritters operate powerfully upon the stomach, bowels, and liver, restoring them to a healthy :«-ud vigorous actum, and thus, by the simple pro 0 f strengthening nature, enable th* sy.-i ram to triumph over disease. ^ For tbe core of Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Nan sea, Flntnlenoy, Loss of Appetite, or any Bilious Complaints, arising from a morlW ji^tion of the Stomach or Bowels, producing Cramps, Dysentery, Colic, Cholera Morbus, 1c., these
Bitten have no equal.
Diarrhoea, dysentery or flux, no generally contracted by new settlers, and caused principally by the change of water and diet, will be speedily regulated by a brief use oi this preparation Dyspepsia, a disease which is probably more prevalent, in all ita various forms, than any other, and the cans* of which may always be attributed to derangements of the digestive organa, c* 7 * be cured without fail by using HOSTETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS, as per directions on tho bottle. For Mia disease every physician will recommend Bitters of some kind; then why not use an article known to be infallible ? All nations have their Bitters, as a preventive of disease and atrengthener of the system in general; and among them all there is not to be found a more healthy people than the Germans, from whom thia preparation emanated, based upon scientific experiments which have tended to prove the value of this great preparation in tho scale of medical science. • Fktxb and Anon.—This trying and provoking disease, which fixes its relentless grasp on the body of reducing him to a mere shadow in a short time, and rendering him physically and mentally useless, can be driven from the body by the use of HOSTETTER’S BBfOWNED BITTERS. Further, none of the above-stated diseases can be contracted, even he exposed situations, if the Bitters are used as per directions. And as they neither create fi«!■*■. nor offend the palate, and render unnecessary any change of diet or interruption of ordinary pursuits, but promote sound sleep and healthy digestion, the complaint is removed as spoedQy as is consistent with the piodnetion of a thorough and permanent cure. fbr Persons in Advanced Years, who are •offering from an enfeebled constitution and jaform body, these Bitters are invaluable as a restorative of strength and vigor, and need # nly he tried to be appreciated. And to nratiMT while nursing these Bitters are mdis^mrabie, especially where the mother’s nour- * -oont is inadequate to the demands of the iah^ consequently her strength must yield, child, . ft is when a good tonic, such as and here '*<naaeh Bitters, is needed to impart Hostetter’sbi gth and vigor to the system, temporary stren vU means try this remedy Ladies should by _ *'v, and, before so doing, for all cases of debilh ’rian, who, if he is should ask their physu the Bitters, will acquainted with tbe virtue i weakness, reewnunend their use in all casi vgaiaot using CAUTxOM.—Wa emotion the public „ - j^* 4 -
