A a.iterary oatalkos Driver. Th« New York correepondent of the Cherie* non Courier relate* the following biography of an omnibus driver, whose acquaintance he mado do ring a niicht ride on one of the line* in the city: Talking as two people will naturally do when journeying together, it was impossible not to notice tliat the driver of the car had seen better days, and had pursued very different avocations The comet was biasing away in the western sky. Thisfumi-hed s topic of convetsation. Instead of trying to illuminate the driver on the causes, conditions and theories of these curious celestial visitors, 1 now learned that he knew more about them than I did. He went beyond this topic, and began to discourse meteorology, astronomy generally, mathematics, he. His wonderful iearnlug, the extent and thoroughneftfl of hii reading v almost bewildered me. But my surprise could not be imagined when, iu illustration of some thought, this driver of an avenue car quoted a line from VirgiL Horace, too, afterwards furnished one or two sententious sayings to this educated driver. ‘'it was a natural desire, but a very delicate matter, to learn the history of such a person. Slowly amyjjnidly the facts came out. He had oeen in better circumstances. Though never a student at any college, he had used every advantage that offered, and grasped at the fruits of knowledge wherever they bung in the garden of his experience. At first, in mercantile business, bn was swindled by a partner, and left almost without a penny. He made another effort, and went on swimmingly for a while. In his hour of sunshine he got married. The crisis of last fall came, and ag dn everything was swept away; and instendofsUiidiiig alone upon the desolate shore of life, he had another to look after and care for, even more helpless than himself. The thoughts of his wife being left to penury and misery buoyed him up to .io anything to spare her these inflictions. “There were several kinds of employment at which he could make a small pittance, though many of them were precarious. As a driver on a public car he was sure of $1 50 a day, though the business was laborious, and to him almost degrading. But even these objections had no terrors to him when he thought of her whom be had pledged to protect. And every day, from eleven o’clock in the tnorn'ng till twelve o’clbck at night, this accomplished driver is making his trips up and dowu the Sixth Avcuue, taking in his five cent fares with the equanimity of a philosopher. I wonder if the persons who travel with him ever imagine that the Jehu over their heads could instruct them in the classics, or unfold to them his wondrous stores of knowledge Tiiis is no romance. The facts were derived from the driver himself, and it is another instance of what a m in could do, however low he may have got down in the world, if he only makes up his mind to conquer or die.” Jeffcraouiaiia. All doubt and dispute as to the authorship of the Declaration of Independence are at an end. It was written by Jefferson. He states, in a letter written in 1819, that it was signed by every member present on the fourth of July, except Mr. Dickinson New York did not sign till the filteeuth; Pennsylvania, still later; and New H impdiire, by Mr. Thornton, not till the fourth of November. "The Conyrexsional Journal,'* says Mr. Ran dall, ‘‘speaks of but one signing. And we are informed that the paper copy, which he (Jefferson) so repeatedly and pa tieularly mentions as signed on the fourth, is not now in existence.” In his cotempor.ineous notes, Mr. Jefferson, according to Randall, says: “The Declaration thus signed on the fourth, ou paper, was engrossed on parchment, and signed again on the second of August.” “But,” says VIr. Raudall, “we think we have been informed that the engrossed copy of the Declaration was not ou parchment. Then Mr. Jefferson was mistaken in that important particular.” Mr. Randall asks: “What became of the signed copy? It was, in all probability, purposely destroyed when the second copy was made complete.” Ben. Randolph, the cabiset maker of Philadelphia, in whose house Jefferson first lodged, mule the desk on which the Declaration was written. Tint desk is now in possession of a gentlemtn of this city, who married a grand 0 lughter of Mr. Jefferson. The Declaration was written in the house of a Mr. Graaf, a bricklayer, on the aou'h side of Mirket street, between Seventh and Eighth streets, of whom Mr. Jefferson hired a parlor and bed-room. So says Mr. Jefferson, in a letter to the Rev. John Mease, September 26, 1825.—P. H.—Boston Transcript.

harm can ari-e from its use in any quantity.

That which protects from or prevents this disorder must be of immense service in the communitiea where it prevails. Prevention is better than cure, for the patient escapes the risk which he must run in violent attacks of thia tialeful distemper. This “Curx” expels the miasmatic poison of F*vek and Aoct from tbe system and prevents the development of the disease, if takeo on the first approach of its premonitory symptoms. It is not only the best remedy everyet dtscove-ed for this class of complaints, hut also the cheapest. The large quantity we supply for a dollar brings it within the reach of everybaiy; and in bilious districte, where Fcvir asp Aou* prevails, everyitody sho a ld have it and use it freely both for cure a i l nroteetlon It is hoped this price will place It within the reach of all—the poor as well a* the neb A great superiority of thi» remedy over any other ever discover e I for the speedy and certain cure of Intermittent* is.
