Tbe Fwlitlcwl Prwapwcto im Itaftlana. Our infermatieo from rsrioue portions of the DtWegive* tbo most flattering amwooces o( t decided Democratic triumph in the coming fall elections. The opposition are everywhere astonished at the spirit of concession and conciliation which pervades the Democratic ranks. County, Representative, Senatorial and Congressional Conventions of the Democracy assemble, nominate their candidates, adopt their platforms, and without breach or division, firmly unite against the common enemy. The Kansas iuue Is dead and busied. The “embodiment” of anti-Lecomptonism, Judge Docolas, pronounces It no longer an issue, and is willing to abide by the verdict of the people of Kansas, as they shal l
l co^., sm»™ u,,« tliose die :ovcries, and tlie excitement and emigra-
tion consequent thereon, are likely to have upon the busineaa of California and Oregon, from which the principal drain must first be made; and the influences Which they may have ujion the future condition and government of the Territory embraced within the present jurisdiction of the Hudson’s Bay Company. Upon the first of these points, we have a letter before us from a well-in-formed source In California, received by the last stsarnsr, which is so clear, full and sensible, that we are sure our readers will be pleased with the following extract. The writer, alter propounding the question which we are considering, goes on to
*ay tiiat
“No one can predict the future;hut our opinion
is this, it will injure our State for six months or a year to come, and after that,it will do us immense good. We have already lost 2,500 or 3,000 good
working men, and our steamer to morrow will
have 500 or 000 more The excitement is steadily increasing; labor will advance so much that our own mines and manufactories, in many localities, will he compelled to suspend operations for a time, and our own receipts of gold will show s diminution from the present yield. This, of course, is against us, and we fear will produce some stagnation throughout the State. Now, nearly all the supplies to support this qpw country
will he taken from this place for ut leasts year.
Our loss In population will be mode up next sum-
mer by the immigration across the t'lains, and they will arrive in a hotter condition than those
who come out by sea, as they have their farming
implements and some stock on hand. '1 hen the
Immigration} from Canada and England will bn
very large, when it is known mines are on thoir own territory and under their own laws. “Another grand tiling for this country is, that we shall have a market for our surplus wheat. This question has long been n difficult one to an-
awer, ‘What shall we do with our products when more land is under cultivation V and It has proved to > serious for any one to solve. But now the thing is clear in a moment—here is s vast
Northern territory, a perfect wilderness which
mav soon contain a large population, and Oregon
and California must send them bread. It really looks like an interposition of Providence to aid us, in carryingout the grand work of civilisation
of this Western slope, which tends to mix the
Mongolian and Saxon races in close intercourse,
before bringing the former to forswear their idols and embrace Christianity. But we must stop, and vou will excuse our writing so much on this
head—the subject is vast, and opinions are useless—we might fill sheets, and give you no infor-
mation after all.”
On the other point to which we have alluded— the effect of these gold discoveries upon the future government of the territory in question— Great Britain and her North American subjects may b* said to be more directly and immediately interested; but the Government and people of the United States can not bo indifferent to the condition of the territory and people on this continent not politically united with us. The British Possessions In North America exceed in extent those of the United States; but their population ami productions, as compared with ours, are quite limited, and their situation and climate forbid any comparison between the Nortli-western portions and the States of the American Union The Hudson's Bay Territory contains 2,190,000 square miles, while all the other British North American Poassssions, including Canada East and West, New Brunswick, Nora Scotia and Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, New Foundland and Labrador, cover an area of only 886,900 square uiiles. The latter, however, contain a population of 2,508,782, while the immense territory of Hudson’s Bay numbers only a population of 180,000. Its Government is vostoa In the Hudson’s Bay Company, which was chartered by King Charles IMn 1670. This charter, with its 8ubs0<jiicot renewals, will expire at no distant day* In view of this expiration, the question of the future government of the territory has been freely discussed in Canada, and has been the sutyect of proceedings m the Canadian Parliament, with the view of preventing a further extension, and of, bringing it under the jurisdiction of the other
British Provinces.
It is known, also, that the leading etatesmen in Canada, and It is thought members of the home Government also have lately been contompliting a movement for the extension of the great Railway lines now reaching through'Canada to the Pacific Ocean, traversing the whole diftance through British Possessions. Formidable os this project appears, it has no doubt been seriously entertained, and wh«ti we consider the old which the English Government would be likely to sfford, Ills not altogether an impossible undertaking. Should the diaooreriee of gold In the neighbor hood of Puget’s Sound prove, os Is not unlikely, judging from our experience in California, but the preluds to mors extensive mineral fields in the interior, the effect must be to attract a large population to that region, and to build up, in s brief apse* of tints, a powerful Interest there, which will not fail to exert Important influences upon the subjects to which we have alluded. Such a community would hardly consent long to be sulject to the Hudson's Bay Company, nor Is it clear that they would be more likely to consent to s politiosl oonnection with Canada. The first rush will be from the United States; but subsequent events may modify th* ohoraoter and tone of th* emigration, so that it-would not be safe to
no little Interest and importance, and may exercise a powsrfal Influence upon the relations between England and this country. *
Monday In August. To this arbitration, not only the entire party, but the country must submit. Black Republicanism anticipated an irreconcilable division in the Democratic party upon an Issue of policy, and in that anticipation felt confi dent of an easy victory. They now begin to feel that they kave built castles In the air. As the canvass waxes warmer and the election day approaches, those illusions will rapidly vanish. Two years ago the clouds which hung over the prospects of the Democracy were darker than the present, ami the hopes of the Republicans were equ lly buoyant. We triumphed in 1856, and we will triumph in the coming contest. The Democratic Issues, then upon trial before the country, bitterly opposed by Black Republicanism, have since met with the general approval of the country. Certainly, no Democrat will desire to neutralize that victory and surrender the issues achieved by a hard-fought battle. The principles and policy of the Democratic party were never more popular than now. They even have the approval of the party which but two years ago took issue against them. What possible motive, then, can there be In transferring the political power of the country from the control of the party which represents its public sontiment, to its hereditary enemies? What can a Lecompton or au Anti-Lecompton Democrat gain by permitting the common enemy to triumph over both? The Republican party in this State have professed a most profound sympathy for AntlLeoompton Democrats. They have been zealous in their praises of Douglas, of MoNraojinY, and ofall who opposed the Lecompton issue. And what is that friendship worth ? Who bitter against Douglas than the Republicans of Illinois ; or against MoNrooHsar than the Republicans in his district ? Both ore candidates for re-election to the positions they now hold, and they will be defeated if it is in the power of the Republican party. So in our own State. Mr. Secrcst, an Anti-Lecompton Democrat, is the Democratic candidate for Congress in the Seventh District. Does he now receive any “aid and comfort” from the Republicans ? Who more bitterly denounced ? Holman, an other Anti-Lecompton Democrat, is the Democratic candidate in the Fourth District. Does he have Republican support? They are now mak ing arrangements to run their strongest man against him. The Republicans will give no more support to SirakST and Holman than they will to Huohxs. They will defeat them all with their own men if they can. In the Third District Carr, an Anti-Lecompton Democrat, is on the track against the regular nominated Democratic candidate; but the Republicans show their great love for Anti-Lecompton Democrats by running a candidate of their own. Are not these facts sufficient to convince every Democrat of the ne cesslty of sustaining the regular organization of the party, if he desires its supremacy and the su*
cess of Its principles and policy ?
From this out, we predict that the race between Lecompton a id Anti-Lecompton Democrats will be as to who can accomplish most tor the success of the regular Democratic nominees. Whatever ill-feeling may have existed has been surrendered by the minority magnanimously yielding to the expressed wishes of the majority in the nominations which have been made. Mr. Secrkst and Judge Holman will have no more zealous support than that which will be given them by those who have differed with them upon the post Kansas issue. And the same generous spirit will bo manifested toward Judge Hughes by those who may have differed with him upon that settled question. And so all over the State. In this county the Democratic nominees will not be supported os Lecompton or Anti-Lecompton Democrats, but as Democrats. If any are Antl-Lccompton Democrats, they will have no more Support from the Republicans than their Democratic brethren. There are important questions which may depend upon the State elections of the next fall. The members of Congress to be then elected may be called upon to choose the next President, in case of a failure to elect by the popular vote, which is not unlikely to be the case. What Democrat, In view ol the importance of the coining election, if he desires the supremacy of Democratic policy, will not yield his prejudices or convictions upon a post Issue to harmonise the party and elect its candidates? Democrats con not expect any support from the opposition, unless for the mere purpose of distracting th* party and only to that extent. Democrats can only expect

Our reports from all sections of this and the adjoining counties are very fbvorable. Harvest-

Corn has come out wonderfully in the last ten days, and is now progressing finely. All that is required in the high lands, to imture excellent
yields, are occasional rains.
Several of our iarmera, whose farms were overflowed, have procured early varieties of corn, and
are now vigorously at work planting.
Some of the farmers of Allison Prairie, on the west side of Wabash, have already foplanted their corn fields with the 'ordinary varieties, and have
hopes of raising pretty good crops.
Take it altogether, the prospect is not so discouraging. The farmers begin to look cheerful, and have hopes which all will unite in wishing

W atne County.—The prospect for crops has greatly improved within the past two or three weeks in this region. Com has been growing rapidly and the wheat crop bids fair to be an average one. We have heard within a few days that the weevil has made its appearance in some of the wheat fields, and danger of rust is apprehended to late wheat. The general talk, however, is that the wheat crop will be a fair one. The warm weather is bringing corn forward rapidly, and with a favorable aeoson In future there may be a pretty fair com crop.—Richmond

Prospects at the South.—The "Charleston Courier says of the cotton crop prospects : All our advices from oar own and neighboring States give assurances of a large cotton crop the present season. W e learn from the New Orleans Picayune, of the 22d ult., that the damage to the cotton crop by the overflow is estimated at from 200,000 to 300.000 bales, and to the sugar crop at from 60.000 to 70,oOO hogsheads. The editor, however, does not place much reliance in these figures, and says that for sixty days to come no correct opinion can be formed as to the result'. The crops outside of the submerged districts, it remarks, are progressing well, with a few'casual
exceptions.
Hendricks and Boone* Thejoint Democratic Convention of Hendricks and Boone, for the purpose of nominating a candidate to represent them in the next Legislature, met at Brownsburg, in this county on Fnday, foe 25th ult. The Democracy of Hendricks hod settled upon no one candidate, and went into the convention, supporting three or four aspirants for thenOmina tion, but all parries acquiesced in foe choice of the convention. ■> jIn nominating Mr. Marvin foe Democracy have enlisted an augury to success. He has represented Boone County in previous Legislatures, and his acts have been indorsed by foe Democracy in his renomination. He is a sound Democrat and a good speaker.
