The following action wae had b/ tbe membara of tbe Quarterly Meeting Confbrepce for South Port Circuit, relatire to the editorial which appeared in tbe Indianapolis Journal, of the 34th last., relatire to the Camp Meeting: Whereas, there appeared in tbe DsiJf Journal, of tbe 94tb inst., an editorial in relation to our Camp Meeting, In wbicb tbe following statements
were made;
" Canr Mcrnao.—A camp meeting baa been in progress for sereral days about four miles from tbe citr, near tbe JMadlson road. Tbe da/ has past when camp meetings are necessary. In this age, where churches are large, plentiful and commodious, camp meetings are productive of much more barm than good. Tbe great majority of people who attend them go for the tame idle curiosity that induces them to attend a circus or any other teuted show. The meetings afford a pretext for the aaeembiing ef all the rowdica and roanders in the country for milee around. More drunkenness and licentiousness attend one camp meeting of three days duration—especially if one

probably from $800 to fMO, also bundles of new counterfeit bills done up quite professionally, and « nsdy for trade,” to tbe amount of over three thousand eight hundred dollars. These consiat of 3’s on the National Bank of Providence, R. A large proportion of these are very finely executed, and would deceive any but tbe most experienced. of those days be Sunday—than accompauie^tbe assembling of tbe people together in any public manner for twice the length of time.
It is time the religious pert of community was viewing these things in their proper ligtat.” We, the members of the Quarterly Meetiug Conference for Southport Circuit, believe that justice to ourselves as the representatives of the membership on this Circuit, that justice Co our visiting brethren in the ministry who favored us with their labors during tbe meeting, and that justice to the Church in general, aa well as to the community at large, requires us to make the following statement. At considerable expense we prepared the camp ground and supported the meeting ; and, in order to prevent improper conduct on or near the camp ground, we had an efficient police, chiefly from the city, to see that the laws of the State were not violated, and that the rules of the meeting were observed. And well and faithfully did they discharge their duty. The meeting was characterized by uniform good order, both by night and day, and resulted, as we, confidently believe, in much good. We regard the editorial above alluded to as a foul slander upon the encampment and the Church in gen eral ; and in this regard, at least, renders tbe Journal unfit to circulate in our families while it continues to condemn onr worship, and compare it unfavorably with “ any other gathering of the people,” even circuses and other vile associa-
tions.
Reiolvtd, That we request the publication of this statement in the Indianapolis Daily Sentinel and other city papers.

Thi Com Caor.—In the early part of the season, it was feared the great amount of rain, the backwardness of the sesaon, and the poeeibility of a short Summer, might make a short crop. All these fears are over. The corn crop promises to be a large one. We have seen a great number of fields, both bottom and upland, and never saw a better prospects of a heavy crop. The rains ef June and July brought corn forward with Immense rapidity, and the heat of August has matured it Tbe corn is tall, the ears full, and far enough advanced generally to be sure of a full growth. There la time enough to ripen it, and wo shall probably find tbe harvest very abundantNiw Wholxsalx Hops* in Indianapolis^— Our enterprising fellow citiasns, Wright, Blake M Co., have made all their arrangements for a Wholesale dry goods house in Indianapolis. Freedom in Canada.—TheStreetville, Canada, Review states that when a negro named Solomon Northrop, a fugitive slave from New Orleans, was about to commence a lecture at the town hall in that plaee, on the subject of slavery in tbe United States, he was interrupted by cries of "down with the bloody negro,” "brain the blasted Sambo,” etc. The noise and confusion was so great and so universal on the part of the crowd, that Northrop was forced to leave the ball under an escort of friends. Canada is tbe land of freedom to which slaves are invited to escape. Fiee Caused »y the Heat or the Sun.—A Paris correspondent of the London Ttmee, remarking upon the extreme heat of the weather in Paris on the 3d inst, says that the intensity of the sun’s rays ignited a quantity of hay on the glacis of the fortifications near Porte Maillot; alao a pile of straw, outside a stable door near the fortifications.
