For particulars see circulars. msr30il3t.
Atheeeum.—Mods and Madame Mertenia take a benefit at the Athenenm this evening. Marteoieis the very best wire dancer and jag gler, we have no hesitation in saying, in tbe whole country. Hie performances cannot be excelled, and are truly astonishing and wonderful. The Madame is a beautiful and accomplished lady, very graceful as a danaeuse, and very attractive. We commend them both to the liberal patronage of a generous and cultivated public. We would say to tbe fraternity that Mon’s is on the square.
Sixth Ward, Attention I Dkmocbatio Meeting.—The Democracy of the Sixth Ward will meet in the front room of the ATUENEUM BUILDING, on WEDNESDAY EVENING, Aran. 1st, at 7^ o’clock, for the parpoee of appointing Delegates to the Oity Convention, nominating two candidates for Councilmen, and transacting such other business as may come before the meeting. iErHA Insurance Compant.—The sub. stantial footing on which this old snd wealthy Company is organized, and the promptness with which its liabilities are paid, are universally known and conceded. The Company suffered heavy losses by tbe fire which occurred, a few weeks since, in Greenfield, Hancock county. A. R. Meeks 3t Co. had an insurance in the ^Etna to the amount of four thousand seven hundred and thirty-seven dollars, which amount was paid to them in full, on the 27th, by J. B. Bennett, General Agent of the Company. The policy was issued by Wm. Henderson, Agent for this oity.
OiT The Ladies Weekly Tribune speaking of the " Indianapolis papers” says:— Wt have heard that a paper has been published here called tbe “ Sentinel,” but as we have never seen it, can say nothing about it For the benefit of the Tribune whose fair contributors, we know, must be anxious on the subjeet, we would state that the Sentinel is pretty considerable of a paper, if not more, and is, withal, good-lookirtg. The editors of the Sentinel are more than considerable, and are better looking. If our carrier does not introdnee us to the Lsdles of the Tribune, we shall have him indicted before a Grand High Inquest of the sex, and tried by a jury of any twelve that they may select.

Leyi J. North and his “Plumb.”—Henry Turner, the circus proprietor, at his death recently, left the entire amount of his property —about $50,000—to Levi J. North, of Chicago, the proprietor of North's ampitheatre. Turner’s blood relations contested the will, but have finally withdrawn opposition— tbe will is to be admitted to probate, and North gets the fortune. North has already made a present of $10,000 to Turner's sister —showing himself a better brother than Turner was.
Colonel Forney.—Tbe Washington correspondent of the Bsltimore Republican says: Washington, March 24th.—I learn this morning that the Manhalship of the District of Columbia will likely be tendered to Colonel Forney. If this should happen, it will be a great disappointment to Beverly Tncker, who had marked it for his own, and expected to forget his losses on the Washington Sentinel in the enjoyment ot its princely salary. ******* James M. Buchanan, Esq., left here for Baltimore yesterday afternoon. In case Mr. Csss recalls his son from Rome, which it is believed, is his intention, Mr. Bnchansn stands in a fair way of receiving the appointment.

The tone of the praro aad majority in Congress evinced the bitterest opposition. The publication of what purported to be Mr. Morse’s instructions, had created great ax citement on the Isthmus. The natives are anxious that the Government shall refuse the propositions, although they aspect that the result will be the militanr occnpation of
the Isthmus by the United States. Some deserters from W alker report that
his troops have unanimously refused to leave Bivas to fight; but are willing to defend their

A special election for Senator in San Francisco resulted iu tbe success of the Vigilance Committee’s candidate. The Supreme Court of California has decided that the Legislature has uo authority to appropriate money to pay the interest of the State debt, and the Court will enjoin any attempt to levy a tax for that purpose. The Senate has passed a resolution that the State honor requires the payment of the State, but a resolution to submit the proposition to the people was lost. Mr. Bates, late State Trersurer, has been indicted for felony, and his trial commenced the day the steamer left. A deficit of $340,000 in tbe accounts of Estelle, the keeper of the State prison, has been reported, and a legislate e committee reports him as unworthy of office in consequence of various gross misdemeanors.
