He stated that the Black Republican lead era ia Indianapolis had arranged for a tkotuand eats* in each Congree*iooal dieUiet, which they thought would be *olCcient to carry the State it the Presidential election. We have no doubt thin arrangement wa* contemplated and partially carried out. One evidence is the application of J. D. D. to the President of the Lafayette and Indianapolis Railroad for free peases over that road k>r political purpose*. And we have no doubt that limilar efforts ere made to obtain free passe* over the other roada leading into this city. The unblushing attempt, aucceaafnl in part, to double vote in Decatur towuahip by the wholctale, is another evidence of this fraudulent scheme. There wa* an importation of Republican voters from Lafayette, by Railroad, ou the day of election, who came here and returned there in season to vote in both places, which was undoubtedly done.— And so we could go on and enumerate most palpable and infamous frauds committed by the Republican party all over the State— fraud* which will in due time be fastened like blisters upon its leaders and which will stick

A storm had been brewing for some dap past, and has now reached the culminating point, and bant with violence, threatening to shake the college to its foundation. The occasion is a difficulty between the Faculty and students, growing out of what is generally believed ta be tyrannical government on the part of the former; the facts of the case being about these : There are two literary societies connected with the institution, each having a hall with libraries, furniture, and property of their own worth probably two thousand dollars, each. These societies are composed of students of the College, who meet in session for literary exercises every Friday night. This has been their custom, with a few exceptions, for many years. A week or so ago, the Faculty passed a resolution prohibiting the Societies meeting at night, and requiring them hereafter to meet in the afternoon. As this law was made and submitted to the Societies without any given reason whatever for its enactment, the students considered it entirely uncalled for without reason or precedent, un-

the students resolved to leave the institution, divested as it was of its Society privileges. Thus matters went on and kept getting rather worse until last Alonday morning when Dr. Curry, the President of the Faculty, declared the College in a state of rebellion, and threatened that in case any more meetings were held, or actions in opposition to the law manifested by the students, he wonld expel the offenders, but this only aggravated the case, and that night meetings were held by most of the stndents for deliberation. The excitement increased on Tuesday, and that night a joint meeting of the Faculty and students was held for conference, and a spokesman was chosen from the senior class

A synopsis of the matter seems to be this; The students were abridged in privileges which they had been taught to deem their sacred rights, and they declared their dissatisfaction. For this they were- declared rebels, and repaired to sign a pledge which deprived them of the right even to complain, and virtually compelled them to remain in the Instifhtion. But the nerve and sinew, the talent and piety of the College are gone. Asbury is shorn of her strength.
