Trembling In their Shoes. The New York ’IVtlntne and other leading Abolition journals, are preparing them»elvos for s defuat is Pennsylrsnis, snd yet save thuiaselvos from *.ho scorn of their friend* nud the taunts of their enemies, for hsyiug inaUtod with *uoh obitluscy that it was safe for Fhkmont. To caxn itself down as gently as possible, the 7WL««s states that it has received information by private advices from Pennsylvania, *• that the Hucbaueen* have concocted some w-herne not yet i*ad» public, securing the vote of the State In favor of the Border Ruffians, and that their despair of the last few days, has suddenly been changed into ex-
ultation.”
The whole story of the Tribune about coalitions and bargains between the Bochawan men und the Fiklmokk men in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, is, of course, one of those” woolly horse” concerns which old stagers like UheM.t know so well how
t«. i<et up for political effect.
The only scheme that Is jet apparent in Pennsylvania, to secure her vote to her distinguished son for the Presidency, is the ltold and vigorous fight which the Democracy are waging single and openly-handed against the combined elements of Abolitionism and Know-nothingism. The result of
that scheme will Ihi that Mr.
will get the electoral vote of Pennsylvania
and of the Union.
Smith says:
” As you an aware, I do not attach that great importance to Uta approaching election which •• many do. I have coma to despair of the peaceful termination of sla .ery. I< mntC ye evl is bleed. The time for abolishing it at the bat lot-box has gone by—aever to return.” Io the face of auch admissions from the great champion of Abolitionism, there are those who tall ua that the Black Republican or ganizstion it not controllad by tha abolition
j principle—that it Is a Union loving, constitu-
tio'nal party! It Wes t Do.
Several days have elapsed now, and not a fresh “outrage” from Kansas. Fsemont stock is on the decline—the Journal is becoming as stale and uninteresting as an old bd* pot or an oyster out of season, and Abolition stump speakers are at stand still for want of fuel to keep the steam up. Bad state of things for the “shriekera,” and worse yet for those whoso noses have an incurable itch for a "root” at the public crib. • W hat are the brace of Doctors and J. D. D. about, that they don’t do something for ‘hair "kedntry?” Reasons for Voting for Framont. The Toledo Commercial gives eleven reasons for voting for Fkemont. Aa there may be aome of the friends and admirers of the Colonel, who are not ready 11 all times to give “a reason for the hope that is in them,” we supply them with this little msgazine of argument, purely as a matter of accommoda-
tion:
Eleven Reasons fob Voting foe Feemont. 1, Because he is a tremendous man. 9. Because he never forsook-his trust—so long as he could find anybody to trust him. 3. Because he parts hL hair in the middle and “iles” it with California bear’s grease. 4. Because be says he is “not a muiderer.” 5. Because the editor of the Blade says he (Fremont) is a “wonderful man.” C. Sharp Criticism.—The Now York Evangelist cl0969 an editorial review of Mrs. Bkechkr Stowk’s new anti-slavery novel, " Dreti,” with the following remarkable criticism : “ The fault we find with the work is, not so tnuoh that a large section of the Church of Christ is caricatured and misrepresented by a singular perversion of facts, as that art has been sacrificed to passion, and that prerogative of the poet has been made secondary to the zeal of the partisan.”

fgT An attempt to get np a Fremont mass meeting, at Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the other day, resulted in getting out all the Black Republicans in the township—just thres l They looked in each other’s faces, sighed, and went home wrih feathers drooping.—
Dubuque paper.
Truth in a Nutshell.—Judge Nisbet, of Georgia, (saya the Boston Post,) one of the whigs who are playing the part of true patriots, in hia eloquent letter on the times, in which he avows his determination to vote
for Buchanan, says:
“ ThB DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS THE ONLY NATIONAL PARTY WHICH THE TROUBLES OF THE TIMES HAVE LEFT TO HONEST MEN.” That’s right to the point It is a volume in a sentence. It’s answer enough to the poor, miserable, senseless flings thrown out that the democratic party is a sectional party! The allegation that the glorious democratic organization, nation-wide in extent, nationbroad in its objects, with principles as comprehensive as the constitution, is sectional, is an old, stale, free-soil calumny, which j democrats ought not to spend breath to re-
Washington Union.
Going the Whole Forkar.
At a Black Republican meeting recently held at Hamilton, Ohio, a bevy of young ladies, tricked out for the occasion, carried banner on which was Inscribed the motto—
,l Frrmontkrs, or no hvsbanm.”
That may have boon very pleasing to the old political ha^ks who undoubtedly wore at the bottom of this little piece of partizan trickery, but to say that the hearts of those young ladies responded to the odious and proscriptive sentiment of the motto, is alibal upon human nature generally, aud upua woman nature especially. If love “ laughs at locksmiths,” so does it spurn, scorn and deride all those little barriers raised up by a mere difference of political sentiment. Let one of those young misses fall within the matrimonial range of some bright, intelligent, honest and good looking Buchanan Boy, and see how quick ahe would forget that Black Republican Banner and iUjesuit.
ical motto.
The nasty old fogies who imposed it upon that little glowing, sighing, melting mase woman kind ought to be ashamed to look an
honeet woman in the face, for the next eix months. The old demiiepa in breaches! what do they know about the interior arrangements aud fixings of that little Eden of
love—a pure woman’s warm heart? “ Frementers or no husbands,” forsooth!—
just eo, “ is a big horn.”
A Card in the Hands of Politician*. Hon. Gkorok 8. Hilliard, one of Mr.
BvcRanan Fillmore’s conservative supporters, in hi*|
speech upon the requisitions of the Massa- j
chusetU Whig Convention, declared that the j 0^7’ An occasional indropper of our sancdiflicalty about Kansas was, that “it was a ; tu “’ u le L ft tl,e following upon the table at
card in the hands of the politicians during the whole campaign. When the truth about Kansas is known,” said he, “you will find
some of the men who have been the
most loud in denouncing the Kansas out-1. Again tne louowing conundrum : f

(£r The Nebraska City News, which is the Punch of that region, says that “com in Nebraska promises a roost unprecedented 0 f yield. The average crop will be from fifty to eighty bushels to the acre. Strictly temperate men could hardly exist on soil that becomes so uncommonly corned on such
slight provocation.”
O^r The Black Republican journals are strong in thair denunciations of the Democratic party and the Democratic platform, because they have abandoned the doctrine of "squatter sovereignty” as advocated at the pasragaof the Kansas Nebraska Bill. The Southern Fillmore organa, aa well as the ultra fire-eating, Calhoun papers, denounce the Democratic party and the Democratic platform, because they recognize tha principle of H squatter sovereignty,” and thus deprive the South of its just rights in tha Territories. Both of these assumptions cannot be tru*. Wan both parties honest in thair motivaa, there would be no argument upon tha subject; for tha position of the Democracy is too dearly defined, to lead to th* riightaat misconception on the part of any one whose only object is to inform Mm•elfin regard to it. The Kansae Nebraska Act and the Cincinaati Platform, are tha only " taxt-books” he will require in the prosecution of his reMarches. If he sticks to them, he will find all outside interpretations quits useless aad
unnecessary.
If tha people of tho African persuasion wild bear this Httle fact in mind, they •*▼• themselves a vast deal of time
and labor.

The Harvest in the United States.— The returns of the wheat harvest in the U. States, says the N. Y. Journal of Commerce, are now complete, and it ia settled that the crop is of moet excellent quality, aud if not the largest ever gathered since the settlement of the country, is at least above the average, and will yield a large surplus beyond the supply, of our domestic wants. The Journal estimates' the yield at 150,000,000 bushels, and the probable export demand from all
sources at 40,000,000.

It is said that the Black Republicans claim only 150 to 200 majority for Wilson in Tippecanoe County. This is a point blank confession that they are moet signally beaten in the District There is only one othe 1 county that Wilson can hope to carry and that is Warren.
