O^Scarlet fever ia prevailing to some extent among th» children in this city, though in a very mild form.—Indianapolis Sentinel. It is lucky for the citizens and visitors that the mild form of the " scarlet fever” did not make ita appearance during the panic caused by small-pox while the legislature was in session.—Madison Courier. Yes, very lucky, consideriug the great amount of Fusion juvenility compromising said Legislature. O^TWhy is the British army like a looking glass ? Because it cannot be beaten without being destroyed. 0^* We clip the following Louisville items from the Journal of Monday : The Police have made several arrests since Saturday. Four or five Irishmen were put in jail on suspicion of having caused the death of a man named Dcnnis Murphy. He stopped at Tibbin s house, on Water street, between Fifth and Sixth, and the inmates of the house •ay that be was killed by falling down a stairway, on Saturday night The officers were called in, and arrested several men. Yesterday morning the Coroner held an inquest over the body, and the jury returned a verdict that he died from dislocation of the neck. An Irishman was arrested on a charge of stealing two carpet-bags from another Irishman. Two fast young men, who call themselves Johh Johnson and John Fitxohrrald, were arrested for attempting to swindle a countryman, by a trick similar to that of the ballgame. We also saw an officer taking two negroes to jail for fighting. An inquest was held by the Coroner on the body of an unknown man found on the wharf, near the Third street bridge. It is suppossd that he was frosen to death. He was seen drunk on Saturday evening. The hotels, taverns and coffee-houses had all their bar-rooms closed yesterday, and everything about the river looked remarkably quiet The wharf looked lively. It wae lined with steamboats. The hail-storm, on Friday night, caused great damage to sky-lights. Capt Dean, of the LomsuiBe, reports that a hundred miles above this, hail stones foil as large as hen’s ga.
