Mrs. F. M. Seward, of Bloomington, spent last night in the city as the guest of Mrs. Harper. Mrs. Seward is the newly elected chairman of the ex#fcutive committee of the Suffrage association and was on her way to fill lecture engagements at Sullivan, Vincenues and other points south.

Yesterday morning the drills at the Staunton well struck Trenton rock and drilling was at once suspended until the officers of the company could be notified. President William M. Slaughter, in company with a large number of the stockholders, wont to Staunton this afternoon and it was decided to resume the drilling. The hole is perfectly dry and about 1,4G0 feet deep. Mr. Reynolds, of the Guarantee, examined the drillings last night and pronounces them the tinest that he has seen here. The fact that the rock has been struck at 200 feet less depth than in the Diall and Plucnix wells is. in his opinion, a strong indication of ihe presence of gas.i
