News
Said a gentleman to a
man: fTt
is noticeable that funerals of thu.se well known and in moderate circumstances are more largely attended than those of wealth. Not infretpientlv oue sees a string of fifty carriages following some friend or relative. This is all very well if those who hire the carriages can afford it,
but too often money is spent for carriage hire that hns been saved for family necessities, and after the expenditure a general course of seimping must follow. Debts to our friends should be paid before death, and afterward all respect and consideration to relatives of deceased shown but it should be within limit of our means. The same discrimination should be used in tloral offerings. Stacks of tloral designs may show popularity. Flowers anil carriages are ex^ensive"and they should not he indulged for the sake of feeling when one is impoverished by the expenditure."
It is interesting to note the different ways that people have in spending money. Few |»eople spend alike. The easy younK man, with a disregard for money, puts his thumb and forefinger into his vest pocket and brings out his change without a glance at it. He knows a quarter, a dime, and a nickel by touch. Fle reivives his change with a quick glance and drops it into bin coat pocket there are others who handle it carefully and stow it safely away there are thoee who part with ft Ungeringlv, with an 1-ish-1 -eon Id-go-with-you look. Then there is the voting man with a snap jwcket-fook. A pocketbook denotes carefulness, and. generally, stinginess. When a man treats another and extract? his monev from a purse, it always prodt»,es a singular feeling on the eureka man. He does not enjoy the treat as he would if the expenditure had Wen made with a careless indifference. I Just the fact that he carries a purse sugwests that he likes his money and would like to keep it, but from obligation feels that he ought to treat. If there is any I one who has never observed these characteristics of humau nature, let hint look shout himself.
