What, page, still standing on the stair? Art frozen to the marole there? Or drearoest of some maiden fair,

S^T Who's

robbed thee of thy heart?

Vo'st fancy that eaoh moonbeam briirht Is but her form enshrined in light, Entrancing to thy lover's sight?

Ah, foolish, foolish pagei.

Where'er Bhe is thou shouldst be nepr, Not dreaming far with moon-dimmed tear! No lady's won with timid fear, ',

But sweetly bold address!

Suppose thy lady thus should stand So near thee thou couldst touch her hand,

Couldst thou thy feeling then command? '. Come, speak, my gentle page! Would thou not softiy breathe her name, „, Or, silent, watch her as she same Towards thee, with a blush half shame

And half thy love confes't?

WSiy, page, what's this—you must be madf A kissl my hand?—I made thee sad? Post thou not know 'tis bold and bad

To love above thy rank?

Thon oanst not help it? Dost thou dare Excuse thyself? But hush I have care lA footstep cometh down the stair—

THEATRICAL GOSSIP.

DKCATI'R, 111., September 11.[—Special.] Docutur's new $100,000 theater—Power's Grand opera house—was dedicated Monday night in the presence of 1,000 ptople Ex-Governor Oglesby 'delivered an adiress and the W. H. Crane company gave "On Probation." The stage is 45 by 70 feet. There are eight boxes, parquet, dress circle, balcony and gallery. Frank W. Haines is the leasee and nianager.

The Chicago News says: Mr. keene played "Louis XI." for the first time at the* Columbia Monday night. The character is one which an actor whose methods are broad should approach with fear and trembling. In his interpretation of it Mr. Keene developed no new powers. His impersonation is essentially realistic. The element of sardonic hnmor in the part was congenial to him. He expressed the rage, viinlictiveness, and other violent characteristics of Louis with his wonted force, but the craftiness and the cunning of tlie subtle and superstitiuos king were sacrificed to vehement declamation. The lightness of touch that one hoped for, but looked for in vain, the finesse, the expression by implicationall were swept away before the relentless impetuosity of the actor.
