A Soiree,

A fight occurred last night hear the Vandana shops, between two tramps named George Adams, and Henry Wilson. It originated by Adams refusing to accompany Wilson down town, and the latter called him ad caward, and said the rt'icson he did not come down was the fear of being arrested. A few hot words passed between them, when Wilson struck Adams on the aide ol the head. Tt« blow was promptly returned, and Mr. Wilson found it convenient to embrace the earth. He no sooner arose than the ground flew up and struck him again, at least it appeared so to him, and he was knocked down thus three times in succession. It was the most scientific exhibition of pugilism that the NEWS man had seen for many a day. Editors who wish to negotiate with him to do their "heavy bus iuosV can mldre&s him at Paris, for that was the point he had ia view last night. •Ait ,.i xsa:

MARRIAGE LICENSES.

The Clerk has issued a marriage license to the following: John W. Pugh nnd Allie B. Hay,

t.ni/sE.TiEvrw.

OUR BACHELORS.

A large and demonstrative audience witnessed the production of this comedy at the Opera House last night.

The play is one of those which are made to order, and in this case it fits perfectly. In the first act, the curtain rises disclosing the boarding house of Widow Mouser, (Mrs. M. Myer) where Judge Jowler (W. H. Crane) and Prof. Bangle (Stuart Itobson) ^re boarding. The Judge is a woman hater from the bottom of his heart, and the subject of marriage throws him into a frenzy. Imagine his disgust, then, when his old friend, Bangle, inform*him that he is going to get married. The Judge immediately gets into a fury, bullies Bangle, and calls him a "bald headed imbecile." The Prof who has a large heart, succeeds in engaging hjmself to three women, and as he clasps each to his bosom, he murmers, "she shall be mine in the spring."

The "hits" are frequent and good, and the fight of Jowler and his friend Bangle, is truly ridiculous. The Professor is informed by the three young ladies "In what the true happiness of man consists," and he murmers "she shall bo miue in the spring."

The reconciiation of Jowler and Bangle in the last act is side spliting, they join hands and sing "Aileen Alaaa" at the close of which they are called before the curtain three times. It is needless to socak of the merits of Robson aud Crane they are too well-known to need further continent. Miss Helen Proster as widow Clinton done some very fine acting, and the remainder of 'the support was also good. The general opinion of the audience was was that it was "a splendid show.'

KATE CLAXTON.

The "Two Orphans" will be produced at the Opera House, next Monday" night, with Kate Claxton as yLouise."

THE PLANTERS WIFE.

Charlotte Thompson will be at the Opm House next Thursday night in this great play.
