This time ''Old Probabilities" was.right beyond a shadow of a doubt, for the pre diction of a storm in the East has besn yerifled. A severe gale, accompanied by snow and sleet, sot in early yesterday morning and raged all day. At Saudy ilook last njght the wind was blowing at the rate of sixty-eight miles, and at Boston at the rate of eighty-four miles an hour. Several vessels have gone to pieces or sustained great damage in the harbors on the Atlantic coast, and fears arc entertained for the safety of others outside. The railroads are badly block aded and trains delayed.

The Imperial mar rlage will take place on Saturday, the 86th. On the following morning the Prln«e and his bride will attend the church service, after which, according to the practice at the Berlin Court, the wadding breakfast will follow," On Monday, the 28tli. there will be a gtaud banquet, and on Tuesday evening, the 1st of fttareh, a grand ball at the Opera House, after which the Prince and Princess will take up their residence at the City Palace at Potsdam.

IRIS LAND.

This cold bleak disagreeable weather recalls to one, the woe begone condition of Ireland, and stirs up the warmer nature of man, for the poor tenantry of that distracted country. Their laws_.goverain# tehftatry are really very poor. The conditions upon which an Irish tenant retains a holding are very fllmttey. There Is really so such protection for such tenants as the law affords the most insignificant person in this country. There seems to he no such thing fccognixcd as perinaaent or uniform rent The landlord Axes the rent at the highest point be thinks the tenant can pay. The more skillful the tenant in the cultivation of land, and the more frugal and industrious he ia, the more real he can pay.

Instances of the above can be given, and as one we cite the Ormshy estate, on which there axe seventy-three holding*, the Government valuation of which was £386 |»su, by which the owner or agent had raised to ESM The lands ar* described as having been all reclaimed by the tenants at their own expense, and without aid from the landlord. This is but one ease but if there is one» there maybe more. It I* quite enough to know that U»e tenant has no protection against the repadty of the landlord, with out going to the trouble to ascertain if the landlord abuses hi* power. Any Has* entrusted with irresponsible power will abuse it. If every Individual does not, enough will to make the experiment fatal to the peace of a country.

The late dispatch*# now say, thai there is a movement among landlords looking to fair rent flxtty of tenure and free sale. If this movement had commenced before it tamme a question between that and no rent all it might have saved the pre*eat trouble but It Is a question now if the agitaMoa can be allayed without more radical measure* than landlords will be likely to propoee. There is alao prospect of a spread of the agitation into England, where the demands of the landlord ex feaust nearly all the products of a fam though the tenants rigfeta aw better Mplndbjr law.

Tine late Sultan of' Morocco was oae day rowing on a lake with the ladies of his harem. The boat upset, and two men, at the peril of their lives*, saved the wholb party. "To have seen his Maieety in such an undignified position, and moreover with his ladies,M writes Captain Colville, was a crime punishable only by death. The unfortunate men were accordingly walled up in a small room and left to starve or die of suffocation. Their skeletons were found while some repairs were being mado in the palace on the preeeat Sultan's aooession."

CattTAYN Dutch naturalists are testing the ability of the domestic cat to act as postman. Seleoting Luik for their headquarters, they thence dispatch a number of cats, securely tied up in woolen bags, to the neighboring villages, where thev are freed from confinement and turned looae, with neat packets of letters securely strapped to their backs. At once their domestic instincts oome into full play, and they swiftly flee homeward with unswerving directnons. Kitting a Jagaar.

The wild hoge of South America am rrry aavage, and when aronaed know not fear. O® night a hungry party of explorers, eamped in a Brasilian forest beard an uproa* of grunting, squeaking and clacking of tuska. ng#?" exclaimed all With joy fulness, "now we'll have a dinner.'*

Snatching their gmw, they crept cantiously towards the sounds. Coming to the edge of a clearing they aaw by the moonlight a jacttar standing on an anthill, about five feet from the ffmuiwl.

The jaguar, with his tail stuck well up in the air, and his legs close together, stood balancing himself on the points of the hillock. As the infuriated pigs threatened one side or the other, he would turn around and face them. He was evidently uneasy, and only waiting for a chance to make a rush and escape.

In a moment of forgetfulness the jaguar slightly dropped nis tail. Instantly a pig seized it andpnlleri then

Then he fell—the uproar Btidsided, and the herd dispersed. The party of exE lorera walked to the battle-ground. ourteen dead pigs were lying on the Celt*, but no jaguar or its remains were seen. I Presently one of the party, picking np a fragment of something said, "Here's jthe tiger!" It was a bit of the jaguar's skin. He had been torn to pieces and devoured by the savage hogs.
