Ice is being packed at present which measures twelve inches solid, and two inches frozen snow, making an actual thickness of fourteen inches.
Injured fetation.
J. A. Parker has a couple of workmen at work at the Station House repairing the damaged cells, which were badly injured by a drunken prisoner a few days HO lecture.
The lecture at the Presbyterian church last night was unjustly, poorly attended. Rev. Parry is a gentleman of rare intellectual ability and his lecture last night on the "Revolution of thought" was a good representation of his power as a speaker. The occasion certainly was worthy a better attendance.
Temperance.
The meetings at the Ohio street church are well attended. James M. Dunn, the able worker will remain here next week. The meetings will be held every evening from this time on. On Sunday evening an admission fee of ten cents will be taken at the'.door,to defray the expenses of the meetings.
Insane.
A woman from Clay County who is said to be insane, was last'night, placed in the station by Officers Thomas, Goodpasture, and MacDonnaugha. She gave the name of Lizzie Shackelford and carried an infant in her arms. She was wandering aimlessly about and would probably have froaen to death had not the officers found her.
Jackmsn & Knlirht.
The Supreme Court have reversed the Jackman & Knight case, taken up from this county about nine months ago, and the men have been remanded to the Vigo county jail to await a new trial. They are already in th^s^/V custody of courageous Sheriff, it is supposed that they will soon make their escape—through bail—as it is hinted that the same effort for conviction will net be made. aM'wnerwwpwB—•

A man named John Melran, living east of the city, was driving out East Main street this morning, when the team of mules which he was driyitfg became frightened and ran away, hreaking the har ness and completely demolishing the wagon. Mr. M. when he found that fur her efforts to get the animals under control would be useless, climbed out of the rear of the wagon and escaped unhurt.
Platol Practice.
That one need not be afraid of shot from city officers is apparent from the fact that developments in regard to their ability, as decided from the practice of one of their number, have come under the noticc of the

terror In his mind for fear of being persued by a ball from a pistol in the hands of a policeman. A member of the force a few days ago was Exercising" in the Chiefs'office with a small S3 revolver, he pasted apiece of paper about the size of a dinner plate on the wood box and moving about three feet away, took deliberate \im. fired and lo, the mark of the bullet could not be found until this morning when it was discovered on the floor below the wood box. This is an example of ftne target shooting. •anBaaaanMaaM'

A new way of escaping board bills has been invented by a fellow named Lou Mclrvin who has been boarding at the Bronson house. A few night* ago the proprietor, David Brouson. discovered something being lowered from fan tipper window, and on examination found it to t» a couple of valises belonging to Mclrvin
The fellows intention was, to lower* his bafgafte from the window and walk out of the house as though he just intended to step out a few minutes, and once free ho would have departed and left Mr. B. minus his board bill. The best part of the fellows joke however was that when prevented from the further working of Ms plan, kit excuse for so acting was that he thought the house was aflrv. This a new one hut won't work every time to perfection.
