A couple of fellows named Stock and Ritlner became involved in a quarrel on North Third street this morning and lively tUt-tt-cuff was the result both were under tbe influence of liquor, and of course their fighting did not amount to anything of consequence.

Tbe difficulty grew out of a conversation in which a woman played a promt nent figure.

The appearance of the woman around a comer, served as$& sufficient cooler, and the fellows shook hands and appeared ae though they had been "cOid" friends all their life time. The girl spoke to each, and passed on entirely unconscious of the ^rouble she had caused and settled.

THE FAIRIES' BOWER.

The Prettkst Decoration in the City, by Wm. Voelker.

To begin with, this is not an advertise ment. It ia but a fair statement of the beauty which adorns the bazar of Mr. Herz, and is given with no pretense of coloring. Many places of business in the city are now decorated, but we venture to say that none of fheru can compare with this, the Faries' Bower. will repay anyone to call at this bazar and see how handsomely, and with what artistic skill it is decorated. On entering the door, tue finest thing that greets your "ex»" is a most beautiful entwining of flowers and evergreens speaking silently, "welcome next a motto greets you with "Merry Christmas," then another "A Happy New Year," and tbe last one "Remember us in 1881." And sncll a place! Nothing but tiii$ silks and flowers, cedars and leaves, all mingled with the happy faces of numerous young Indies, lend a charm next to enchantment.

Nannie Weeks. Sallie Morgan, Emily Steinmehl, Lulu Rclhle. Sophia Wilkes, Nettie Jewell, Theresa Straus, Carrie May, Cora Steinmehl and Adelia Robertson, are all in the employ of Mr. Herz, and testify to his popularity and universal kindness. Mr. Herz hasjbeen in business here about tvicho \cars tnd has built up a reputation excelled by no one in the State.

A farcical comedy of the most laughable description, has bccorae the princi pal bill of the company bv reason of its unbounded success everywhere. -It was performed with such artistic care that the public were enthusiastic in their praise of it. Its characters are all affordedjlue opportunities foe good acting. The play is literally tSharged with infectious humor, whllh produces the roost uproarous laughter in an audience, rns

ttiVAts.

To-night Joe Jefferson will appear in tke Rivals. Cornedv is the laoglt of nature, and that it has the liveliest attraction for a progressive and desperately in earnest people was evinced by the large audience which witnessed Mr. Joseph Jefferson's first performance of "The Rivals" at the Arch street Theatre* last night It seemt that the forces of l-fe.strained in the fierce struggle for existence, would fain lie dovra in those little blank spaces between supper and sleep, and bask in the sunsblne merriment. Like our houses, we have glass windows in ourselves, and we love to throw op*n our abutters when opportunity offers and let in a flood of light to show us that our soul fnfniturn is not as moldy and dingy as we feared, and that Its very dust particles can be seen to dance in the focal ray* of com edv. But it Is not only Innate love of humor thai fills the theatre with intelli ji*»nt and reftoad people. There is a fascination for the audience other than the fttrram of delidous ftm emanating from "Bob Acres," As Mr. Jefferson sees tttotr In "Brtb* than the. eoward and the lop. the charmed spectators? .see* mors in him than the re comwflar He fa -Ms the audience a double In die. The decorations of the different store* in this city ire this year finer and mora brilliant than ever beforfc. Ia looking about to day wc wem especially attracted by the artistic arrangement of the "o-im.' of A. Hers and that of Owen, FUley & Co.

On entering tbe establishment of A. Hent on Main Street, between, Fourth and Fifth, Oar eyes first feel upon a motto arranged in evergreen, bidding "welcome" to each visitor who enters the room. From the front to the rear of* the store an arch canopies the centre of the room, and this arch is festooned with a brilliant plr arranged exhibision of notions and fancy goods. The work of this is due to Wm. Voelker.

Gn every hand the eyes of the bewil dered visitor rest on a stock of useful goods of the best which quality at this place can be purchased at the lowest prices. The place is constantly crowded with customea who are all properly waited upon by a large number of accommodating young ladies who are always ready to see that no one leaves without being properly cared for.

Further down the street we were at ,traded by the display of holiday goods in the window of the clothing establishment of Philip Schloss An index to a perfect stock of gentlemen's furnishing goods which are to be seen in his house. 'At Owen Pixley & Co's. we were again compelled by the attractive window show to stop and look about their beautifuly trimed store room. Here again is a complete stock of gents and boys furnish ing goods,|flt presents with which to crealc happy hearts in the bosom* of your friends next Saturday. If you wish to make useful holiday presents we would advise you to examine well the stock to be seen at the gbove named places before you determine nn what you will expend your means. Here you can secure value received for all you expend and at the same time create the happy feeling that you would desire in the breast of the friend vou wish to favor.

fleeoncl Trial of *rs. Brown. tiidlanapoli* New#: The second trial of Mrs. Mary F. Brown, the alleged uxorcide, began this morning in the criminal court, Ralph Hill presid ing. The public, probably, are aware that nothing much of interest will be developed for a day or two, at least not before a jury is impannelled, and the attendance to^day was confined almost exclusively to the hangers on about the court house, and the victims of the special venire for selecting a jury. The state is represented by Prosecutor Elain and Deputy Brown, while the defense is conducted by Cropsey & Cooper, and Dr. Levi Ritter. Mrs. Brown sits at the same table with her counsel, and to day her demeanor was almost impassive. She is paler than at the time of her previous trial, but her desperate and repeated attacks of illness have not had much effect, if any upon her physique. She was dressed in a leghorn bonnet, with a black feather in it, black cloth cloak, black cloth gloves, and black alpaca dress trimmed in velvet in plain folds. She sat quite unconcerned and in an easy attitude of listening. The morning session was exhausted in questioning candidates for Urn jury as to their fitness for service, and up to noon, forty bad been called and excused, mostly for cause. The indications then were that the venire of seventy-five would be exhausted and then the panel will not be completed.

It is^ an established fact that our life insurance companies are prepared to take risks on anticipated consumption, provided they will freely use Dr. Jordan's King renovater and liniment. This certainly speaks volumes in favor of these standard remedies. For. sale by all retail druggists throughout th& State, and wholesale stores in the city.

Remedy for Indigestion. Here ia rather a curious remedy, but in tuanv cauea a very certain one, for the cure of indigestion. It is simply the cultivation of a habit of chewing, while out of doors, different kind of green leaves and swallowing tlie juice. One can always cull a leaf from a hedge or bush as one passes, Almost ell are good that are Hanscon*, such as the ivy, or poisonous laurel-kaf. One of the latter, however, is a capital thing where there is a slight irritation of the stomach. The chewing of leavfe cures dyspepsia, principaHv, I l»e!tevc, by increasing the flow of salivary juice, and partly by the tonic and stlmulati»g action of the leaf chewed. The leaves that occur to me at present as most likely to We beneficial are those of the pine-trees spruce or Scotch fir. blackthorn, currant and roee bushes, mint, the petals of many flower*, the stalks of tr.onnt«in-daisir*, the white portion of rustiea, the hark of many yonast trees* and tlie tended parte of the Mnlka Of green wheat, oatts, or almost any of the larger entires hot your ora liitf* ttvrsst in a $mv measure guide yoti, if yon elect to i-.uke trial ofat^y remedy.
