FREAKS.
The Criterion Company will next Mon day night appear at the Opera House in Freaks. The following notice of this company ia from the Boston Journal
The most attractive performance of the week, by the New York Criterion Comedy Company, it» our view, was "Freaks." It i»a running stream of fun, and con tains more wity dialogue, no less than comic situations, Umn any play written for many years. And it was correspondingly enjoved. It is something cheerful and exhilarating to hear an audience on the continnous roar, and especially at and with what is decent in sentiment and incident. Such were the audiences the latter half of the week.
The N. Y. Criterion Company is an excellent organization. All the leading parts were given with cleverness, clearness and accuracy. riftATBS or PKtntAKCS.
Do not fail to be present at ihe Opera House to-night. To hear and see this play is sure to give a person as solid an evening of enjoyment as thev can desire.
The Kow York Tim** says: There is an underlying current of humor which shows the talent of Mr. Gil lcrt in this peculiar line, and it would be impossible ror a con finned misanthrope to refrain from merriment over it. It is very well put upon the stage, /and is pictusesqae from first to iasU The amuse roent that is caused by incongruous situ ationa, and the absurd gravity with which the pretend seriousness of certain scenes is carried out were the cause of irrnjpre* ilbfe laughter last night. The text is so full of points that the student can not Ml 10 learn i( the opor» is elosejj ob served.

Many a jaded woman looking for lit relations to visit her feels like the om' who calls lier*elf an "over-vifciic«i womaii," and makes her complaint through lite x»iuaue of U*e**icw York Tribune:
She has been married fifteen yeans has several, children, lives on the cw«* homestead, and cverj1 summer her husband's motlter, brothers and sisters, with their children, come visiting. "Ontx^ when my husband told me that he lutd heard frmu his mother, and that *l* would be with ns to-morrow, I said dear? 'Oh dear whatf said he. ••-"I don't know how to take any montronble,' said I. *^Iy uiotlier new. made any trouble any where/ said hf I mean that I can't take any more work.' *Mv mother won't make any more work. Alt you have to do is to put on another alate.' I said no more, bnt from that lay to this, each year, she comes with her children and grandchildren. They sit on the cool niazza^ and I cook for them over the not. kitchen-stove, witfj one child in my arms and another hanging at my skirts." She thinks it a cruel way to treat any woman. It at least shows that all the inconveniences and annoyances of inother-in-lawism are not on the side of the husband.

What of it? Is it any disgrace Is she anylessatrue womaii, less worthy of respect than she who sits in silk aud satin, and is vain of fingers that never labor? We listened to this sneer a few days ago, and the toue in which it was uttered betokened a narrow, selfish, ignoble mind, better fitted for any place than a country whose institutions rest on honorable labor as one of the chief cor-ner-stones. It evinced a false idea.of the true basis of society, of true womanhood. of genuine nobility. It showed the detestable spirit of caste, of rank, which a certain class are trying to establish—a caste whose sole foundation is money, and so the meanest kind of rank known to civilization. Mind, manners, morals, all that enters into a good character, are of no account with tnese social snobs position in their stilted nusks is lought with cold, and each additional dollar is another round in the ladder by which elevation is gained.
