UNCLE TOM'8 CABIN-
We did remark a few days ago that Uncle Tom's Cabin is a play of which our people never tire we now acknowledge that we failed to add, "when it is played." A large crowd of citizens and residents of the surrounding country gathered at the Opera House last Saturday night to witness the presentation by the .AtnlMtrcrombie troupe. We speak truly when we say that from the time the curtain raised on the lirst net to the time it decended at the close of tha sixth, the performance wag the tamest we have experienced for a number of years. Terre Haute could organize an amateur troupe, which would far exeell the Ideal Combination, The perTormers, with the excep Hon of Topsey, have no energy about them but go through their respective parta like a pupil in our common schools, going through a first lesson in elocution. Topsey was very fairly represented by Miss Blanche Sladin, but however fine might have been her acting, she could not'redeem the worthlessness of the balance of the company. We wish it understood that the cause of this company's appearance cannot be laid at tbo feet of our worthy and gentlemanly manager. On the contrary we think the public under many obligations for his endeavors to bring good troupes to this city.
We would suggest that the Ideal Uncle Tom go back to the place whence it made Its debut and try it over ngain.

»n tit© case of AbdiU vs. Nancy Wilkerson, the plaintiff, Mrs. Abdil. tiled her reply, denying all the allegations in Mrs.Wilkcrsou's answer, which she had published in the OaseAte of Saturday, and Sunday's Kr}mm. The plaintiff will now press a trial at an early day. and will then prove, as she says, that the answer of the defendant is us false as her original charge, and infinitely meaner and more malicious There seems a fine prospect for a few perjury eases to grow out of this suit, and then sOme parries who are financially worthless will probably receive unexpected hut deserved punishment, so we are' informed.
JACOB It. SMITH VS. UEOHOK (IROVES. It will be remembered that a few weeks ago the plaintiff, Smith, brought an action for slander against the defendant, Groves, in which he claims $10,000 damages. The complaint avers that Groves charged Smith with the crim* of "beasluility," by having carnal intercourte with a female dog at a straw pile.
The defendant this morning filed in coort his answer thereto, which ia as follows: tl, SmitA Comes now the defendant, and for answer herein says that he admila the sneaking of the words as laid in the complaint, and says that the same are true, and that the plain* tiff was guilty at the time and place aver red in the complaint, of UK offense of "beastlality," and therefore be spoke the words as be well might, and prays judgment accordingly,

Nothing that they eould give hii» appeared to do him gootl, und from loss of appetite and sleeple&mess the snake became a mere hreck of its former self. A large blanket had been placed in tins serpent's cell for him to sleep upon. One morning the keeper found that tho blanket had disappeared. Search was made throughout the cage, but without success. At the same time the snake's bodv had swelled to the thickness of a good awted-sapling. He had swallowed the blanket but the blanket would not digest, and the snake became sicker than before. In this manner he lolled around like a wan dyspeptic for over four weeks. Finally the blanket was discharged by natural causes, Irnmeiintely the^ snake begun to improve. The swelling in the body gradually dwindled down, and he grew larger and fit tier than before, till the tx"x became too small to hold him. The keepers then removed jdm to a larger cage. He ate like a gourmand, ami at times found room for two and three times the customary quantity of food. The blanket acted as a kind of medicine upon his stomach, and cleaned him out entirely. Now he is fifteen feet long, eight inches in circumference and the healthiest boa constrictor in the lot. A change of color was the only visible effect on the blanket. Under the microscopfe itshowed that it had4ecorue a little worn by being rubbed in the animal's stoma'ch. It came out undigested, and was carefully [jacked away in the Superintendent^ private office.
