There is a demand for a students in the northern part of the city. Prof. Brown, of the Indianapolis High School, will deliver a lecture in Normal Hall next Friday evening.
President Brown, and Prof. Carhart have each an exercise to deliver before the State Teachers' Association.
This term is rapidly drawing to a close. Home is glowing in its attractive force, and wert it not for the final tests, the closing month would be the happiest of the term.
Mr. Dealand is one of the r»ost obliging students in school. He furnishes stamps'., paper &c., at the north library as l?w as they can be bought any where. Especially does hfe thus oblige the ladies.
Examinations are being showered upon the students without mercy. When the teachers come around with the daily classbook, then there is fear and trembling especially when the papers have been marked "N. P."—not pass.
Club-boarding is growing into favor among the students. A large majority board themselves in this way now. The club Is secial center around which arc clustered students from different parts of, the state. It is to be regretted, however, that these clubs are not permanent even for one term, thus leaving the students very unsettled.
The Eclectic Society held its last regular meeting of this term last evening. The attendance was large and the programme much enjoyed. The Society has done Tory good work this term, and closes with no small Udegee of satisfaction. When mitfcellancouH business was called the secretary read a bill presented by Messrs. Qrosjean and Coopftr. The bill was of humerous nature and crcated a great deal of amusement to members of the society.
The Phllomnthian Society will hold the last meeting of the Scrim "next Friday night,. Au Interesting programme has betm prepared, and the stodents will take advantage of this meeting, to have a soci able time before separating for the holi days. Everybody is invitedjto attend these meetings as they arc for the purpose of Instruction and amusement at the aamc time.

MRS, SOOTT SIDOOIfS.
Tlio Opera House was comfortably filled by sn intelligent audience, which has largely been familliar with Mrs. Scott Siddons as an elocutionist. The play presented King Rene's Daughter, was witnessed with a marked degree •f Interest, especially was nothe character of Iolanihis the kings daughter which was represented by Mrs. Siddotis. The character represents the daughter as being blind, and was well presented by the lady. In the Honeymoon Mrs. 8. plays the character of Juliana lo perfection. The Jolaatha of King Rene's Daughter and the Juliana of the Honeymoon are so different, and yet so ably filled by SIddons that the wonderful adaptability of the actress is at once perceived. The, above opera will be produced al our Opera House next Saturday night. 'This opera is considered by musical *irtties to be far superior to any other works of Kewrik Oilbcrt siwl Sullivan, and the company with which they are present ing it this season is the strongest thai, ever attempted this line of com position. The opera is given with all Aew and beautiful scenery, costumes, etc., and its presentation here will be as perfect as close atitttkm to every detail will insure.'* cxcut tom's cant.

It Is rather singular that Axueritana are the only civilised people who habitually chew tobacco, although sailors of nearly every nation are addicted t? its mastication. It is singular, too, that we, probably, employ tobacco in other ways less than other countries. Suufflug is rather rare here, common as it is in Europe, especially on the continent. We ao not smoke any more, if as much &B, the English ana the French, Italians, notably the Germans, Dutch and Spaniards exceed1 us in smoking. But as tobacco-eaters wo occupy the field alone, having, it is to be regretted, a monopoly of one of the most unwholesome ana obnoxious of practices. The national mastication and expectoration are known over the world, and do ample service in all conceptions end caricatures of Brother Jonathan. To see a landsman chewing tobacco anywhere abroad is to kno\v Kim for ar American, native or adopted. Perhaps we stick to the worst of the three customs because tobacco is to so large an extent an American plant. Europe knew nothing of it until the discovery by Columbus of the Western world. The sailors he sent ashore at Cuba found the natives smoking, and, seeing them emit smoke from their nostrils, imagined them to be on fire. iL.ll the natives from the uorthwest coast of Patagonia used tobacco, and to chew it is one of our inalienable and aboriginal rights.
CORNERS.—Corners have always been popular. The ehiuiney-eorn?r, for instance, is endeared to the heart from the earliest to the latest hour of existence. The corner rapboard! What stores of sweet things has it contained for us in vouth with what luxuries its shelvet have groaned in manhood! A snug corner in .» will! Who ever objected to such a ng? A corner in a woman's heart! Once get there,^ ami- you n»av soon command the entire domain. A corner in the Temple of Fame. Arrive ftt that, and you become immortal.
