Tl.t holders of the sixes of.'80, bonds that fall due on December 81, have retreated from their exorbitant demand upon I he Secretary of the Treasury when he announced that he would give them pre ference in the weekly purchases. Thev now are willing to take the 102^ offered. Their original demand was so high that it would have been equivalent to paying the interest until December 20. It is not known why such an unreasonable demand wfts made, but it was thought at the Deportment that the same parties that held these owned others, and they feared that if the Government ceased making the usual .purchases the latter would decline ih price and that the high rate was asked foe the sixes to diacouragc their purchase and cause the continuation of the regular investment. •r:-

Fifth'streets, and there heard
the ravings of the mad creature who wtis praying earnestly and begging most pathetically for her son to "come down through the roof and take her home 150 glory." The doors and windows were all barred and Goodpastor was compelled tp force his way into the room and therd found the woman with dishevelled hair and torn clothes rushing frantically about and going through all sorts of antics. The bed clothes were strewn about the floor, tables and cJiairsere laying about in a dilapidated state. Her name is Altonb?rger, and it is sai| that one of her sons committed suicide a few years ago, since which time she has not been of sound' mind. An inquest held in the County Clerk's office by Squires Cookerly and Shcemefcl tills evening will probably bring to Hght'fkts of' nio*e her insanity.
