Cincinnati Convention in the rejeeiio tothe Constitutional Amendments. The honest Democrats who voted for the amendments, are heard to express the hope that they who wanted October elections were satisfied now.

Sir. Landers explains the situation by saving the tariff beat him. NO CONFIDENCE IN DEMOCRATIC RULE.

The real truth is that the general char acter and tendency of the Democratic party were not such us to command the conh dunce of the people The business inen did not want to risk a change, the workingmen were satisfied with the present condition of things, and suspicious of experiments the Republicans Were harmonious and pleased with their candidates, while the Democracy were weight ed down with internal dissensions and weak candidates in the personsof Landers and English. Besides this, the Republics proved to be much better organized than the Democrats.

U. S. Marshal Dudley has brought suit gainst the Sentinel Company to recover 111,000 damages, sustained by the publication of a forged circular bearing his signature as a member of the Republican State Central Committee.

OFFICIAL RETURNS IN PART. At 11 o'clock official and unofficial re turns have been received from eighty-five counties. These give Mr. Porter aggregate pluralities of 39,748 and Mr. Landers &J.860, a net Republican plurality of 6 889. The seven counties yet to near from

Hancock, Noble. Perry, Tipton, Ripley, Spencer and Union—gave a net Democratic majority in 1876 of 1.506, so that Mr. Porters plurality would be 5,323 if these would be no Republican gains in the reported counties.

There is no change in the Congressional delegation. A dispatch from Bloomington says W. F. B. Treat has a majority of sixty-eight in the Fifth District, but Watson claims that his majority in the district will be between 300 and 500. Watson's election is generally conceded.

Mr. English claims a doubt in the Tenth District, but there is no question of the election of Demottee.

DEPARTING STATESMEN.

The visiting statesmen have all departed, and the hotels and headquarters of both parties seem like banquet halls deserted. Messrs. Dorsey, Gorbam and Filley left ou the 6 O'CIOCK train for the East, in a special car tendered by President McKeen of the Vandalia. In a carriage driving away from the New-Deni-son, lust before these Republican gentlemen left,(were Mr. McDonald, Mr. English and Governor Pillsbury. It was a sorrowful trio, in contrast with the jolly party in the second barouche.

MARION COUNTY OFFICIAL.

Full reports from this (Marion) county show the following pluralities on theprinipal candulatds: Porter. 2164 Van Vorhis, for Senator. 2.270 Chapman, for Senator, 3,226 Adams, for Sheriff, 878 Biel, er, for Recorder, 2,47B Peclle, for Con gress, 2,270 Elliot, for Supreme Judgefc,386.

The whole faco of the local fight was oncentralcd against Adams, because of the fact that ho commanded a company of volunteer militia raised to protect prop efty durfng the railroad strike of 1877. The large vote for Elliot shows the indignation felt over the action of the Supreme Court, Elliot will run ahead all over the State for the same reason, as well as for his conceded fitness over his competitor, Scott, who is nothing but an ordinary political bummer. Peelle did not receive liis full party strength by at least four hundred, but his plurality is helped from the fact that l)cLa Matyr, the National andidate. drew more heavily from the Democratic party. He polled 1,600 votes in the county, 1,000 more than his party vote, and the excess came from the Democracy Instead of from the Republicans.

Central Ke*ult*.

iNntANAPOus. IND., October 14.—Returns from 85 counties give a net Republican majority on the State ticket of 8,8S9. The counties to hear from are Hancock, Noble, Perry, Tipton, Spencer and Union, all Democratic excqit Union. These counties gave, in 1876. a net Democratic majority of 1,566. which if there are no changes from that vote, would give the llepiujlicans a majority the State ticket of 5,385.

The contest in the Fifth Congressional District is very close, and it will require the official vote to determine the result. The Republicans claim it by a small majority, which would give the Republicans nine Congressmen to four Democrats. The present delegation stands six Republicans, six Democrats and one National.

From the mtfst reliable returns received up to this evening, the Legislature will stand as follows: Senators, twenty-five lomocrats and twenty-five Republicans House, fortv three Democrats and fifty seven Republicans—a majority of foar teen on joint ballot

OUR .FLIRTATIONS.

James Bird Wilson's new comedy, "Our Flirtations," was presented to a good sized audience at the Opera House last night. The. play contains many amusing incidents, and provokes laughter in spite of a person's attempt to wear long face.

The only two characters which we can mention at present are Louise Sylvester, in the double role of Laura Lightheart and a neice of the actor Raymond, and Sara Seeker. Tlie character of Ray mond is well supported by Frank Mackey.

OUR OORIilNS.

A very large and thoroughly amused audience filled Haverlv's Theater last night, to witness Wm. C. Mitchell's Pleasure Party in ''Our Goblins^a new musical extravaganza, written bv Wm. Gill. The piece is modeled on "The Brook," and the pieces of a similar character which have lately held the stage and caused laughter to the public ana and profit to the managers. A party of five Americans visit the Rhine, and rest on the banks near an old ruined castle. Here one of the party, Benj. Franklin Cobb, falls asleep and dreams a most remarkable dream of romance, mystery, song, and dance and everything astounding- Tlc adventures of tne dream form the basis of tha extravaganza, and afford five very clever people an opportunity to do some capita! acting, singing and dancing.
