Anew plan has been inaugurated by professional tramps. A very well dressed youngster called at the residence of a prominent citizen last Saturday and told the lady of the house that he wanted to secure board, he had obtained a situation in a dry goods house (naming it) and hearing that he could get board at reasonable rates he thought he would call and ascertain the truth. The lady informed him that she had accommodations for one more boarder and as the breakfast table was still standing she Invited him to the table. He sat down ate a hearty meal and has not been heard from since.

Hanna's Speech.
The Democratic Congressional Convention held in this city yesterday nominated Bayless W. Hanna, of Terre Haute, by acclamation. Bayless made a speech in which he announced that the next time the Democratic party elected a President it would inaugurate him. He announced, furthermore, that the flesh of the usuper would be fed to the eagles, and his bones be left to bleach in the Galgotha of treAson, which we suppose means the grave yard of the Democratic party. He denounced Grant as a thief and pronounced his administration a disgrace to the country. He declaimed from Holy Writ that beautiful passage about the rains descending, the flowers coming, etc., and said the Democratic party could stand it all because it was built upon a rock. This is the substance of his speech. It was a batch of empty bluster suited to the taste of the average Democrat, and was often loudly ap plauded.—Crawfordsville Journal.
"De man who finks he knows it all am walkin' his way to de po'-liouse," solemnly observed the old man as he sloyly drew in his legs and stood up. "Ize flndin' men cbery day who know so much dat dey doan want advice. It am de hardest woik in de world, nex' to splittin'*swamp ash rails, to convince one o' dis sort dat he kin possibly be wrong or any one else be right. When a member of dis club comes to me an' axes my advice as to whedder he better quit a steady lob to rush out he de Black Hills,, or de White Hills, or Leadville. or any other spectficashus locality. I st&n'ready to waste a heap o' talk, on him. When one finks he knows all about it hisself an' makes a rush, I want it understood dat I doan' raise any mo' beans an' taters dan my own family kin eat."
The fact that Samuel Shin and Restorer Johnson were intending to set out for Leadville probably gave rise to the above remarks. The hint that their families need expect no assistance from the club may maicc a radical change in their plans. —Free Press.

Some interesting experiments to demonstrate tha non-poisonous character of copper have been made in Paris by Dr. Galippe. In order to prove his belief in the harmleasness of copper compounds, he did not limit his experiments to the bodies of the lower animals, but tried them upon himself and a select number of his 4ieciples. For many months post he has made it a habit to eat food prepared in vinegar and left for twentv-loor hours in copper vessels, always mixing np the verdigris that made its appearanee with the food. As he and thoee of his friends who took part in these festivities have suffered so evil effects from their strange diet, Dr. Galippe claims to have disproved the calumny hitherto cast upon wts of copper. ~~*~W
