The girl, it is claimed by her friends, is virtuous, and was betrayed and forced into the plot. The case is now in the hands of the Prosecuting Attorney, who will take prompt action. Considerable excitement prevails in Turman Township over the outrage. No more details are possible at this writing.

IVOKOMO, IND., May 17—The arrest of Mrs. Garrett Gordon, of Irvin Township, this county, yesterday, on the charge of murder, has created no little excitement throughout the western portion of the county where the parties formerly re sided and were well known. In 1875 Mr. Gordon and family removed from Eryin Township, Howard County, to Boone County. They got along very well apparently and no discord was noticeable.

On last December 2Sd Mr. Gordon ate a hearty dinner, feeling unusually well. In an hour or so he became very sick at the stomach, and vomited violently. Next day he died of what the attending physic ian called brain fever. Soon suspicion began to point to the wife and her young lover. The corpse was exhumed in April and th« stomach sent to experts at Indianapolis for analysis. The body was then brought to thisjeounty and buried in Ervin Township. The wife and two children came here to live with her father, Joseph Coy, a well-to-do farmer

Last Saturday experts reported to Cor oner Hilligloss. of Boone County, that arsenic had lieen found in the stomach, and that official came at once to this city, and oa Sunday had the body again ex hutned. and removed the kidneys, spleen and liver, to be used as evidence in the coming trial on the Coroners affidavit.

Mrs. Gordon was at once arrested, and was this afternoon taken to Boone County for trial, which will occur this week unless the delicate condition of the woman prevents it. She is within two months of her accouchement. Deceased had a life policy of $2,100. and this fact will figure in the trial. All the parties are well con nected. ane the turn affairs have taken is a big sensation for Ervin Township

—A reporter of a certain paper in this city gave a very good exhibition of his power at fascination last Friday night. On entering a hall where a literary aocie ty was being held, be espied a young lady in company with a gentleman escort sit ting at a distant part of the room. He immediately took a seal near the lady, who happened to he a teacher in the pub lie schools, and began monopolizing her attention. At the close of the exercises he invited her to allow him to accompany her home, to which she fate ber assent. The couple started off. leaving the astonished fellow who had brought her lo the entertainment in a precarious predicament After studying the situation for a time the slighted youth fished up some other company and left the place of his persecution

A FlcndUli Outrage.

SI'LI.IVAX, IND.. May 17.—Last night in Turman Township, this count)', there otrurred quite an outrage. The facts, as learned by your correspondent, are these, A young girl residing here has a reputation among many of the young bloods of the vicinity of being unchaste. Fifteen of these boys made up a purse of $."» with which they hired a young man to bring her in their midst, when they each successively held improper relations with her. They then demanded their money back from the young man, which he refused to return, when they cruelly beat him until he was unconscious and left hirn lying in a ravine in an apparently dying condition.

A prominent young gentlemen of this city has been trying to run it too heavy lately. He was out walking last evening with a young damsel, with whom he seemed to be very affectionate. While strolling around, the couple chanced to meet with lassSe No. 2, who became very much offended at the usurpation. She informed the girl who was with the youth that if she did not break off his attention she would make trouble the offending

whereupon the offended pitched into her with a vengence which resulted in the defeat of the besieged. The gentleman did not interfere, but stood by and enjoyed the skirmish.
