—AJ1 nature seems to be rejoicing over the late rains. —The Boaz went south to-day. —Business seems to be livining up, so say all the principal merchants. —The steamer Fayette is lying at the wharf at the foot of Oliio street —Light suits are now the principal article of display in the clothing line. —A suit for slander has been brought against John D. Harris by Maliala Harris. —The walls have been begun for W. R. McKeen's new business block. —The Crawfordsville Journal on Monday began a Daily Morning Journal.
A little daughter of K. Smith fell from a skiff last Sunday, and came near being drowned. —A coach load of immigrants passed orer the Vandalia, Sunday, en route for Kansas. —Reports from Pennsylvania say that the fruit crop will be better this year than for several years past. —There will be a boat race at Long Point Saturday, on the Lake Adryonac. the picnic grounds. —Quite a pleasant evening was passed by the large number who attended the ball at Turner Hall last night. —The mighty Wabash is again attempting to spread itself, having raised about one foot and a half since yesterday.
Ernest tVhitehouse has again returned home from Jeffersonville, where he has been for the past two years. —The price of admission to the Fifth street theatre has been reduced as an inducement to patrons of that class. —The stairway leading to the room above the St. Elmo saloon has been removed to give the saloonists more room. -Mr. E.|F. Rail has moved his wagonmaking shop lo the rear of Mr. Watson's blacksmith shop. This is an accomodating addition to the shop. —Excavation has begun for the nt'W building which is lobe erected just east of Mr. J. Bauer's new stone front building. —W. II. Pige has on exhibition in his show window a Continental dollar bill.which was just one hundred years old yesterday.
Sportsmen should remember the shooting match at Strawberry Hill to-day. Two coops of pigeons arrived this morning over the I. & St. L. for the occasion. —If a fire had broken out Saturday night iu the Opera House while Bob In gcrsoll was lecturing he would have changed his mind about there being no '•Hen." —Robert Stewart, the merchant tailor, will bo tried before Esquire Steinmehl. Suits amounting to nearly $250 have been brought against him by different parties. —A business nuut of north Fourth street being under the influence of the extreme heat was yesterday evening observed. by a passer by, resting on a large cake of ice. —A full attendance of the members of the Concordia Society is requested at the rooms of the Tern Haute Library, No. 634J^ north side of Main street, at 2 i\ si., on May 12th 1880. —Go and buy a reserved seat *for Barfett to-night and then watch seme of Geo. P. Bissell's servants occupy it dur ing the performance. At least until the frying commences. —If you want to have lots of fun tonight buy a "Balcony seat" and watch onejof Bissell's slaves occupy it for you at the opera house. Yon can continue the fun until the roasting commences. —The warm weather has increased the number of street loafers to such an extent that it is embarrassing to a lady ta walk down Main street and hear the conversation Indulged in by this class of men and boys. —-Messrs. Quigley & Mewel have opened a general Intelligence Office and Collecting Agency at 235 Ohio street. This is an enterprise that has been long needed in this city, and we hope the "gentlemen will succeed. —Mr. J. Stahl is canvasing for the illustrated books of Appleton & Co.'s publishing house. Those books are among the most useful and instructive of modern literature, and should lie in the hands of Jrwry person who enjoys fine litera tarts. :J -The Vaodalk rood is1 being graded for the laying of a double track between here and the coal regions. This is another improvement made by the worthy president. Mr. W. R. —Mr. Bridwell has his new cottage on North Sixth street about completed. —Rev. T. R. Bacon preached his farewell sermon last Sunday night, at the Sixth Street Congregational Church. —A popular temperance lecturer by the name of Dunn has been invited to assist in the temperance work in this city.
The third street market is well supplied to-day with hay and ^'ood there being about sixteen loads of hay and eight or ten loads -wood.
The sporting season has begun in earnest judging from the amount of fishing poles and guns we see being carried, around the streets. —The bust in the window of S. Swope's jewelry store is a fide work of art and is admired by all who have any taste at all for that kind of work. —There is considerable complaint of the condition of the atmosphere at the west end of the bridge, caused by the emptying of trash at the sides of the grade. —The flouring mills of Kidder Bros, are running night and day this week. The supply of wheat being short they are prevented from supplying the demand as promptly as desired. —If the part}' who carried away a pair of shoes, which did not belong to him, from a prominent drj' goods house of this city, will return the same, he will confer a favor on the owner by so doing. —The reduction of fare over the E. T. H. & C. and the road leading from Danville to Chicago, is a subject quite fully discussed by the traveling public who appreciate, to the greatest degree, the act of the managers. —Quite a contrast is perceptable between the reports of the meetings of the Republican and Democratic clubs. The loss of zeal on the part of the Democracy and the enthusiasm manifested by the Republicans. Keep it booming boys. —The Davis Family are highly praised for their mtisical assistance at the" Lockport Republican meeting.. Their music is appreciated wherever rendered, and the liberality with which they exercise their talent is greatly appreciated by their fellow citizens.

John Cleary, took pas sage for Jeffersonville yesterday having in charge John Hilton who will take lodging in the State tavern in that place for one year having committed a theft in this city which entitlesjhim to'that length of tinic.hewas accompanied by Frank Sutes who will stay two years tor1 attempting to shoot Officer Roach. —A fight occurred at the distillery yesterday afternoon, in which ope man had his face badly disfigured, one side being terribly cut, and the other side swollen so as to entirely annihilate any signs of the existeuce of an eye. The wounded mans antagonist was arrested, and he himself let free. He walked down to Main street, where he created quite an attraction for lioys ami street loungers.

10.—A
little tilt in
the Senate occurred to-day between Senators Conkling and Eaton. Conkling $aid something about the shade of the shadow of the old Democratic sentimentality of States Rights. Here Mr. Eaton retorted that States Rights was a living vital thing, and now that the Senator from New York (Conkling) was the leader of an Imperial party'it was time for the Democrats to stand closer than ever by States Rights. This is construed as a Field boom.

Agreed to day after the 15th inst. to meet daily at eleven o'clock. The Appropriation Committee also reported the Legis lation Appropriation Bill and will call ii tip to-morrow. Both of these facts are good auguries for an adjournment by June 1st. With the Legislation Bill out of the way this week, there is no good reason why all the necessary work can not be cleaned up to enable Congress to get awny at the time indicated.

Eiuk, Pa.. May 10.—There is every pros pect that the prize fight between George Rooke and Mike Donovan for $2,000 and middle-weight championship will lake place to-morrow. Both pugilists are quartered at the Reed Iloijse, which is now fa mous as the headquarters of the prize fighters and their patrons. It was here that Mace and Coburn held forth in 1871. prior to their fizzle in Canada, and Dwyer and Elliott, the last pugilists who battled for the heavy-weight championship, had their headquarters.
Killed tor a Thunderbolt.
Nkwcasti.k, Ind., May 10.—This even ing late, Joseph C. Achey, living near this city, took refuge under a large elm tree on his farm, during a thunderstorm, where he was killed by a thunderbolt. The stroke burned and blistered his body, and left the remains a pitiable sight. He was about sixty years old.

Chicago, May 10.—A heavy rain storm, accompanied by wind, visited a larg£ section of this State Sunday. Tha TH bunc'n specials say the thriving village of Otsoy, near Winchester, Scott county, was nearly destroyed by the fearful wind Sunday evening. There wa*r a cloud burst and a terrific rain, thunder and lightning. Just before the catastrophe the wind took a narrow path, demolishing everything in its way, but lasting only about three minutes. Twenty buildings were either totally or partially destroyed. No lives were lost. Thos. Roberts lost^ a new store valued at $8,000, II. M. Hunt two warehouses, and others lost in moderate amounts, aggregating from fourteen to fifteen thousand dollars, The debris covered fields adjoining the town.
Some damage is reported in adjacent towns. A fearful cyclone swept across the eastern portion of McLean county at 9 o'clock last night, damaging property at least $100,000.
In Arrowsmitli township twelve dwell ings were utterly demolished and 100 acres of orchard eradicated.
In Empire township the damage w§ nearly as widespread. Many persons were injured. The home of Edward Reese was destroyed, and Mr. and Mm. Reese lifted in their bed and carried one-fourth of a mile and set down iu awheat field. A child of Mr, Kroetz hail its skull fractured and will die. The track of the cyclone was three-quarters of a mile wide.
The town of Guthrie, which Is station on the Springfield Division or the Illinois Central Railroad and which con tains only half a dozen houses, was struck by lightning and everything destroyed by fire. No one was hurt There was a furious wind. The lightning was brllli ant add continuous. Throughout the whole central part of the State, many farms and towns were flooded for a time.

night at Woodvilie, six miles from here, a tornado tore down buildings, station house, and wrecked other buildings. Mr. Bekman's house was destroyed, his right thigh broken, his flve yfcar old daughter instantly killed, and his wife fatally in jured. The house of Jerry Cox was de strayed, and his wife and hired girl blown away. They were found this morning a guarter of a mile from the site of the house, both dead.
The United States ship Constellation baa completed her ballasting, and will probably leave for Annapolis to day.
