Ananias Cook.

Communicated Joseph Aiianis* C«K»k stands lefore the world a self convicted liar. In his lecture entitled "Does Death end All*" he goes out of his way to attack Ingersoll. This is a veiy bad "taste. Not only that, but he willfully perverts the facta, He says that Iugtrsoll signed a petition a*k

Ee

Knowing that Ingersoll denies it knowing that the petition savs nothing of the kind knowing full well there is no truth in it. he sjill continues, in the face of truth and justice, to make the unfounded charge that is, he makes the charge in Ingersoll's absence. He it too cowardly tomakuitin Imrersoll's presence.

Col. Ingersoll has a standing challenge to all such champions of Christianity as Joseph Cook to meet him in joint discussion on religion, but it remains unaccepted. Why don't Cook accept this challenge and make his charge to Ids face, like a man of courage. instead of striking him in the dark like the cowardly assassin.

I^et the friends and admirers of Cook have him here on the 8th Inst, when Col. Ingersoll is to lecture, and let these two giants settle the qttesiion of veracity between them.

Col. Ingersoll will divide time with this religious Samson, from the Hub, most gladly.

Iugersoll is ready, willing and anxious to meeet Cook or any otiter defender of his faith now, here, or at any other time and place that may please them.

Cook will not meet Ingersoll, for It would prove too soon that so far as he is concerned "Death does end all."

We throw down the guantlct and defy Cook or any or his whinnlng raping friends and admirers to take it up as against Ingersoll, the intrepid champion of intellectual liberty.

We will then see of what meat Joseph Ananias has been feeding on that he shotdd be so great.

It will at least be entertaining on next Saturday night to hear the jolly, honest and courageous Pagan pay his respects to this bellowing bull of Bashan.

When COOK savs that Prof. Gray has retracted and modified all his advanced ideas and lteiiefs on science and religion, he states that which he knows is not true.

It has been scarce three months since Mr. Gray delivered two lectures in New England, in which he took more radical grounds on evolution than Darwin himself ever advocated.

Gray has modified his views to some extent on the Laws of Natural. Selection," but in every oilier respect is mpre radical than ever.

rove it by reading, not the petition which says Ingersoll signed, but the "report" made on the petition. That report was prepared by *one Bicknell, a Democrat who has-been in his dotage for years, and wagons, and Phaetons, in it took occasion to vent his political spleen against Ingersoll, in just about as cowardly and unfair a way as Cook gratifies his religious malice.

Why don't Ananias Cook read the petition instead of the "report" made upon it by his political and religious enemy? This trick, or argument as he crflls it, would be unworthy the most degraded shyster who ever attempted to lead a jury.

How much more contemptable it is in a man who professes to be a Christian minister. It is a concealing of the facts. When Auahias kept back part of the price of the possession he sold, and lied to Peter aboutit, God struck him dead. Ananias Cook should take warning.

Let him read the petition which Ingersoll signed, and then the people can judge of the truth of the statement. He does not read the petition, because that would prove him to be the wilful falsifier he is. Cook makes the statement that Ingersoll favors the transmission of obscene literature through the U. S. mails knowing it to be utterly false. Such a man as this is not a Christian, but is a liar and hypocrite. He Is not the eoual of Ingersoll in honor or intellect, lie is a bawling, lying blatherskite. Ingersoll's religion is the religion of truth, of love, of virtue, of charity and of humanity.

Cook.'s religion is the religion of hate, of jealousv and of hypocricy. Cook's lecture is (/compound of falsehood, noise, wind and eternity.

Only a few days ago, Col. Ingersoll. in speaking of this Christian parasite, in a lecture which he delivered in Boston, saitl When Joseph Ananais Cook says I am in favor of transmitting obscene literature through the mails he writes across the forehead of his reputation in flaming letters the word LIAR."
