We suppose at the next meeting of the Council, Lawyer B. F. Havens and his committee will report in favor of the city paying Boleg's attorney fees.
The Republicans of the Fourth ward can have a walk away, if th(j Democrats permit Lamb and White to name the Democratic candidate for councilman toif lit.
The city election takes place next month, and we are glad the Boleg steal occurred before tlmt time so that the infamous party which is to be blamed for it may be turned out of office.
The report of Havens «&• Co. on the Boleg case will be framed and hung at each of the polls on the day of election, so that voters may know by whom they have been swindled.
We ask the Ledger, the only Democratic paper in the county, what effect the action of Benny Havens, Will Beau champ, Jakey White and Joliny Regan will have on the next, election
If Miller had died of the wound inflicted on him Boleg would have been guilty of murder. How would the people like to have Ronnie Havens and his committee to act for them in such a rase?

When a "nigger" obtains a judgment against a Democrat, if the city council Is Democratic, the words "nigger" and Democrat shall be construed as the pocket books of the tax payers of the city.
We have talked to not less than fifty prominent Democrats, both professional aud business men, and they denounce the action of tho council in the Miller-Boleg matter as an infamous outrage and steal of the people's money.
Would it not be better for the council to be honest, before It get* so exceedingly liberal? Inasmuch as the city owes considerable which it Is unable to pay. would It not be better to apply the revenue to the reduction of debts, than to the payment of Miller's judgement?
The city, thanks to a Democratic council. is $10,000 worse off to-day than it was a year ago. And yet this same reform council has the cheek to raid the city treasury to pay a judgment against a pet policeman for violating the law. From such another "Reform Council," good Lord, deliver us.

Condemning it is complied with, which is as follows:
To the Mayor aiul Common Council: In compliance with a resolution adopted by the council, December 12tli, 1876. your committee on public improvements in connection with the chairman of the committee on water and a majority of the lire committee, have examined the public buildings in the city of Terre Haute as to means of escape in case of Are, and beg leave to submit the following report for your consideration: "The Opera House, corner of Fourth and Main streets, was the first building to claim our attention. Of said building your committee desire to say, they do not consider mid building secure again fit lots of life in case of fire! and would recommend^ 1st: That the Terre Haute Opera House Gompanj', or their agent, be required to convert the thaee windows immediately in front of their ticket office into a door or dcors. with a suitable flight of stairs to emptj* the first floor of said building in case of fire. 2d That the}' be required to protect their foot lights with a wire cap in addition to the glass chimneys now in use. 3d: That they be required to lay water works into said building and erect a water plug, and that they purchase a sufficient amount of hose to reMh an}r part of said building, and that said hose be at all times connected with said flre plug in said building, and that the nesessary tools be provided for opening said flre plug at any and all times.
The fourth refers to the emplojrment of police. 5th: Wc would recommend that the stairways in the rooms occupied by Hoberg, Root & Co., Frank & Rothschild and Mr. Doolcy, be cased up with Iron instead of light pine lumber, as is now the case.

On motion of Mr. Smith, the above report was adopted unanimously. An Ordinance providing for mean* of egress from Public Building* within the City of Terre Haute, Indiana. [Adopted March 10, 1879.]
SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Terre Haute, tliat it shall be unlawful for the owner or owners or agent for the renting of any building within the limits of the City of Terre Haute, to let the same to any person or persons for the purpose of holding any theatrical and other exhibition or public shows, for which money is demanded or received, until the said owner, ojvncrs, or agent, shall have filed with the City Clerk a certificate of the Board of Public Improvements of said City, that said owner, owners, or agent have provided means of egress from said building satisfactory to the said Board, and any one one violating the provisions of this Ordinance, shall, upon conviction before the Mayor of said city, be fined fifty dollars and costs for the first offense, and one hundred dollars for each succeeding offense.
SEC. 2. Whereas, an emergency exist® for the immediate taking effect of this Ordinance, therefore, the same shall take effeci and be in force from and after its passage and publication.
