•John Lantb now assumes the Democratic dictatorship in the Fourth as well as the Third ward, and has issued his ultimatum to the effect that Robert Flynn and no other man shall be the Democratic nominee for councilman. The election returns will show whether the Fourth warders want to 1m- run by Lamb and .lake White.
The people of the Fourth ward know .lake While's record as a councilman, ami under no circumstances would they return him to the council. White now proposes to name the man whom the Democrats shall nominate, and that man is Hubert Flynn. Mr. Flynn is a good enough man. hut it is a little cheeky in While and John Lantb to say that the Democrats shall nominate him.

There was no earthly necessity of this policeman in going to litis private residence for such information, especially when he knew the lady's husband was not at home, and why did he intrude when he found the lady sick. THE NELSON MEETING.
Splendid Turnout of the Yoemanryof Old Jefferson.
A MAGNIFICENT ADDRESS.
The Pure Republican Doctrine Promulgated In the Spirit of Harmony And Brotherly Love.
M*d!»on Courier. Time and space prohibits an elaborate report of Col. Thomas H. Nelson's magnitlcent speech this afternoon. It was a masterly effort: unanswerable in argument, beautiful in diction, and delivered with the ease and grace of Demosthenes. Public speaking appears* to come as easy to Col. Nelson as talking in conversation. and attracts spontaneously the attention and confidence of his audience. There was not a person present at the Court House this .afternoon but who would walk a long ways to hear Nelson again, and we trust they will have the opportunity during the campaign. His speech was a brilliant, vivid portrayal of the rccords of the Republican and Democratic parties, and was presented in a manner calculated to convince and persuade all candid men. The audience, which was exceedingly large for one of the first meetings of the campaign, was composed of representative men from all parts of the county. The distant townships were well repre sen ted, and the close attention these intelligent cultivators of the soil award ed him was remarked by -Colonel Nelson a* the highest compliment that could be paid to him. The effect of this speech will

This is to be a campaign of reason and argument, and the Republic4n column starts out grandly on that line. Next week we may publish Colonel Nelson's remarks ver batim, and pending that event will say no more of his address to-day.
