The sail boat Mohawk was out on a cruise yesterday.

Hon. J. C. Brings, of Sullivan, came to town to sec the circus.

New stone crossings are being laid on all the principal streets in the city.

Col Bob Ingersoll will lecture here some time In May. We always welcome Col. Bob.

The new steamer "Little Joker," failed to meet with the expectation of her own} er*. She attempted to ascend tho river last Sunday but could not get more than 20 rods, when she had to drop back to shore. The trouble lies in the size of the boiler which is too small to furnish the steam required to propel the boat. The trouble will be removed in a few days by the setting of new boiler.

To the People of Terre Haute: For the past five months I have had severe pains in ray eyes, and in fact they pained me nearly all the time. I tried everything for relief, but it was all in vain. I was advised by my physlalan to call on Prof. Samuels at the Terre Haute House, and he examined and fitted my eyes with a pair of his glasses, and by wearing them for but one day. the pain entirely left me. I have tried glasses before. but they made my condition worse. I am writing this it maybe for the benefit of other*, as there are plenty of people In this city who have bad eyes, and I am certain from the way he succeeded with me that he i* aiming to help weak eyes. I oaunot say enough for the good he has done me, and in such a short time I shall be only too glad to trial* my experience to any one who choose# to call on me.

Tfea Cooseil Says Yon Must iPay Miller's Judgment.

A Precedent that Will Bankrupt tbe City Trea*ory.

The Police Committee say the people of Terre Haute must pay Miller's judgment against Boleg.

A Democrat shot a "nigger." A jury of Democrats said he had no right to do so, and awarded the '•nigger" damages. Now a Democratic Police Committee say the people must pay the "nigger's" judg ment.

Tax payers of Terre Haute will you fallow the Council to rob you to pay an honest judgment which a colored man obtained against a Democratic policeman for shooting him*

How is this for Havens as a lawyer. 'The recovery of a judgment in the civil circuit court by Miller for $35.00 damages for his wound simply indicates that the jury found that Boleg had technically exceeded {his authority as policeman."

For shame Ben, "Sit still my heart sit still." Mayor Havens, as a "lawyer," will you please state upon what principle of law you arrive at the conclusion that the city ought to pay Miller's judgment? Please do this as a "lawyer."

Our supreme court on last Monday in the case of Wright vs The State held that "Common sense is an important element in the administration of justice." "Ben," you are a good lawyer please stand up and give us the "Rule in Shelley's case.

There ought to be something done with those ponds and pools west of the river. If the yellow fever was to break out in our city, there is no estimating the loss of life which would occur by reason of the deathly malaria arising from the stagnant water.
