poor family, but you needn't say ftuy thing about that—on Ninth street, and will return after dinner.

Rep.—Thank you. Know of any more? Minn T.—Yes, indeed but what in the u*e of giving you all I know at once? I told you hurt week that I would visit a friend on Chestnut, and ftpend the afternoon and night with her, and return to school ntxt morning after breakfast, but you did not make any mention of it. and I'm real vexed at you. Well, we'll let that go thin time I really don't care much about having my name in the papers very often, yet 1 may as well tell you that tomorrow I Khali vitfit Ming Julia Dodgers, the belle of Eighth Htreet, ami return to Mchool after dinner.

Hep,—Thank you. I am much obliged to you for tliewe items— I hey are no interesting to the general reader, you know. A moment, if you please. I am told that Mins Trollop went away hut week to be gone quite a spell.

Miss T.—Yes, she went to visit her old mother, who lives below the nail works. She found her mother in poor health, and actually remained until her mother cleaned ifousc and did the washing and ironing, but she returned yesterday in better health than usual. She had a good time of it, too nothing to do but play the pi ano—and they have such a splendid oue~~ and chat with her beaux, and she always has so many. 1 wish 1 had half as many as she has. Oh, dear! How lucky some people are. Next week I will have a better report, as quite a lot of us girls are going to take a boat ride to Macksville next Sunday afternoon to attend a

school, and will return on the Van railroad—a foot. Hep.—I would be pleased to join your party I think so much of singing schools, and often feel as though I would consent to walk two miles to get to one. I enjoy them so much, indeed I do but I always like company when I go. I don't like to go alone.

Miss T.—I would be pleased to have you go with us, but—but—my—but my pa and ma and live brother* will accompany us.

Hep.-—Good evening. Miss Tattle, I must hurry along, the managers of our paper are anxious to get my correspondence on time.

lounit Men's Rrpuoiicau flub. The Young Men's Republican Club met in regular session last Saturday evening.

The attendance was large an| the audience enthusiastic*. After the remitngof the minutes and reports of committees, twenty-two applicants were admitted to regulat membership.

Mr. O'Reilly was then called to the floor and responded in an eloquent address, which not only pleaswl but instructed thow present. The speaker commented on the magnanimous conduct of the Republican party, and assorted that the best thinkers of the age say that the Government while under its control has been too lenient and men who ought to !e incar ccrnted for life are now at our National capital, making laws whose very severity is enough to put to shame the party we lovnJfor its Uod-liku generosity. JUr. O Reilly's study and observation has disclosed to him as well as others the fact, that the IVn»»K**ls« b*ve no fallh in their leaders but will do anything to defeat ihe Republican party.

Mr Cast©, of Sugar Creek township, made ft few remarks saying, among other things equally a» good, that he came to Terre Haute to visit the Yovtg Men's Club, but that on looking around he was plea* to sec some, of 5be same "old nnons" that were there in '86. He had been riding hard all day helping to roll up the biggest majority that the Republican party ever had in Sugar Creek township.

Mr. Hook* of the Fourth ward, said he was not a public speaker but that he was worker, and front the apptattm* given his few remarks the hoy* showed that he WfettmftttiMwni&teNi*

About 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, John Gcclau. a young married man living on the aristocratic part of Third .street, between Mulberry and Cherry, went home intoxicated aud commenced breaking up house-keeping in a fashion peculiar to men in his condition,

A visit to the scene of action showed a total wreck of bed. chair*, safe, and in fact, everything of a destructible nature. Hi4 wife got out a warrant for his arrest, but late last night John was found in an East End saloon, full of "election juice" and swearing vengence on his faithless wife. He claimed to have a knife in his possession which must drink her hearts blood before th£ jetting of another sun. Drawing him aside the reporter gathered the following facts from him John is a helper in the blacksmith shop of Seath Jb lingers car shops. He is of respectable family, and appears to be well educated.

Several years ago John made the acquaintance of a young woman, by name, Amanda Smith. John was struck by the fair charmer, and it seems followed her up for some time, until finally she left town and waa gone for about a year—returning, as John alleges, in a bad condition—almost blind and deaf, she found herself deserted by her old friends, with the exception of oue who swears that she is his fate. John took her to some place and paid her board for several months and then procured her a home in some good family as kitchen girl. This, however, did not seem to provide means sufficient to satisfy her and' thence she drifted to what was familiarly known as the "Bull Pen." From there she was taken by the police ami incarcerated in the station house. From here she was released on payment of a fine b.C John, who from the first had ever been faithful.

From the station house they went to the Clerk's office and procuring license were duly married.

The marriage was cpnsumated hist August and John and his wife lived very happily togther until on last Saturday night when John claims to have gone home to find the "dear one of his heart" faithless to her marriage vow.

Sunday afternoon about 8 o'clock, John went into the house while the partner of his joys and sorrows was absent visiting a sick neighbor and once more the ball opened to the music of breaking china and smashing furniture.

When John was last seen at about one o'clock this morning he still had blood in his eye, and swore there were 40,(XX) policemen on his track and that he was bound for Chicago.

John's wife stated the following in a conversation with our reporter: She claimed that they fell out about, some trivial matters on last Saturday evening before supper aud that the man found in the house was a friend from Marshall where her relatives live, and says it was about 8 o'clock when John eame home.
