m-+A good friend of the DAILY NKWB rushed into the officie yesterday afternoon v^'th the information about the "big Injuns" at the depot, but the forms had just gone to press, so he was too late{ as he unfortunately was with a good, item of news a few days before. We see by the Express of this morning that Lawrence Hudson-wished into the presence of the redakins without fear, and from his account we learn that there weifc 10 children and two warriors of the Poncha tribe. The savage looking warriors bore the significant names of White Eagle and Standing Buffalo. They were clad in the eus tomajry suit of buckskin leggina, a blanket, a pipe and dirk. Mr Pallets the agent having them in charge, said that the young ones are to be placed at school at Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and that the two chiefs are on their way to Washington to consult with the Great Father. The noted Standing Bear was a third chief under White Kagle and SUadiog Buffalo, but is now a renegade from the Poncha tribe, and the statements made by htm are to be contradicted by the warriors while in Washington.

"Grab a Root."

In reference to anecdotes of the late war, a story is told on Col of the Ninety-ninth Illinois Volunteers. While that regiment was being transported down the river from St. Louis, a soldier by accident fell overboard, and, as usual, everybody became excited. Above the cries could be heard Col B's stentorian voice calling out to the struggling man, "Grab a root! Grab a root!"

The idea of a man's grabbing hold of a root in the middle 4 the rivwr, to*say% himself trGia drowning, Was flmlittojaj The bOys i^embesrod it, howefel, radial the first eliarge oti the Works? of -Vfcra* burg, the Colonel received an ugly shot in the calf of his leg, which brought him to the ground. He rolled over several times in pain, and while the balls from the works were cutting the dust around him he cried out, "Cease firing! Cease firing! You are drawing the fire from the enemy on a wounded man."

The boys saw their chance and the whole regiment with shouts of laughter yelled, "Grab a root Colonel, grab a root!"

In addition to the above, the DAILY NEWS learns that the night, porter and watchmen of the Terre Haute House were the parties who come to the rescue of the injured Parisians, and promptty "collared" the assailants and held them in custody until the arrival of the police.

»-»-The reader of the DAILY NEWS who skips the "Rail and Wire" column overlooks about, all that is really news to be found in the telegraph columns of the morning dailies, The news of the day will be found therein presented in a small compass, and the reader gains as much information from it, as if the first page of the paper was covered with the average batch of associated press despatches. The DAILY NEWS would not give a dollar a week for the privilege of the associated press franchise, and be compelled to print each day all the gibberish that comes over the wires.
