I wish you to see the King, in person, and make arrangements with him so that our vessels will be able to take water at these islands. Present him with a white vest and pair of eye glasses, and flatter him immensely. Tell him he is the greatest king on earth, or anywhere else; in fact, you might tell him he makes any other king look like a deuce. He’s a very amiable fellow if he is flattered in the right way.
