Scene—American schoolroom. Teacher—Who was the first man? Little Boy (at rear es class)—George Washington, ma’am. “Why do you think George Washington was the first man?” “Because he was the first in war, first in peace, and first In the hearts of his countrymen.” Another boy raises his hand. “Well, Johnny, who do you think was the first man?” “Don’t know what hAs name was, bpt I know George Washington wasn’t the first.” “What makes you so positive?” “Well, my history says he married a' widow, so there must have been a man ahead of him.”
