WAR REVENUE.
War with Spain, which seems i. evitable, says the Chicago Dispatch, will make the raising of a great revenue on the cart of the United States imperative Shall this revenue be secured by taxing the necessities of Jiff ? That has been the pel cy of this government in the past. Is it to be the policy in the future? Great as has beeu tne burden of taxation, the piospect is that it will of necessity become much greater Congress should endeavor to discover some method of semiring revenue that sliall not lax to the last de gree the necessities of life. In regard to methods of securing funds with which to pay the exueuses of the government Engs land is fav more enlightened than th United States. Such is the am ouncement over the fir t column, fourth page, of the Rensselaer Journal. “Lei” must now take down that “figu ehead.” The eo-~a led Rensselaer Democrat, which made its first ap pe ranc on Fi iday of Jas. w<ek is the only “trooly Joil” and genuine ‘successor to People’s Pilot, Its ma agement, D W. Shields et al.,..the ndorsementof the mortgage which incumbers the ti tle outfit. In the Pilot, D. Vv. Srielas et. al. were stockholders, direct rs etc. See? Then the action of a leading populist, a shareholder, etc., in the Pilot, late deceased, in disco:,ti uing his support of the Journal, Wednesday, makes it moie plaini / evid nt that the Journal is not the legitim ate “succtssor to People’s Pilot.” Take it down, ‘Lei!’
