JUST DISCOVERED IT. From the Indianapolis Sentinel. A oorrespon ent from one of tbeoutside townssends ns <m article concerning tax dodging and says in an accompanying private letter: “Thefacts<l is. losed by Gen Harrison’s speech owlit to be fired at tboae rascals every day f-om now until the election. I have been a republic m ever since the first organization of thereuubli anpnrtv, and voted for MoKinlev at the last elec Fn. But I am satisfied that the republioin party has now bandoned the cause of the people for the c use of the bondholders and I meant sand with the people.” This is a very excellent sen iment and one which the Sentinel alwavs rejoice to find among its ri pnblicau friends The article inclosed is as follows-
“ Gen Harrison in his speech in Chicago on the 22d ot February last showed t at in the sicg e state of New Yoik there is annually conceals from the tax assessor the enormous sum of *3,000,000,000 worth of personal property, consisting prinoipally of bonds, notes, mortgages, stock etc. He asser.s further that these seennties are held principally by the men of great fortunes. This property, if assessed its proportionate sharu, say at the r .te of $1 on the hundred, or 1 percent wo’d y-«id to the state annually $30,01’0.000 revenue. Was there ever such a gigantic robbery perpetrated in the world before? Here are men who e'utch n their fists everv year $30,000,000 ot plunder the fruits of fraudulent concealment o'’their property from assessment, a d yet thei the street corners and cl moi from uav to day for a gold standard in order that their bonds and notes may be paid in what they call honest money The rascals should every one be in the pen - tentiary a.id made to forfeit to the state every dollar’s worth of property they have concealed. his would be measuring out to them the very essence of justice No wonder they can contribute millions to Mark Hannas campaign fund.” The only com pl a nt that we have to make of oui republican friends who 1118 and oome to it is that -h\ th ®7 J® *° lon 8 finding out what ails them.
