Waterproof Materials.
A fabric of beautiful says the London Telegraph, is to be putupfon the market, an improvement upon, the waterproof materials treated with, ir.dia rubber and other solutions. Theiinprovement consists in giving to the coated surface of sueh goods a film of' powder made by reducing glass to dust,, this being sieved so as to remove all crystallized appearance. This coating gives to the surface a fine, soft, silky and luminous effect. Thus coated, the material may be ornamented either before or after vulcanization, by printing or otherwise, in the colorings preferred, with the desired pattern or design. For this purpose colors having ah india rubber or other suitable waterproof medium are selected; and, in order to counteract the adhesive the material is treated after ornamentation to a second coating of pulverized glass. ThiSmlso produces a luminous appear- i ance, and not being soluble in water, it possesses the advantage of being more substantial and lasting in its effects than the ordinary powders employed..
