Democratic Sentinel, Volume 20, Number 20, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 22 May 1896 — RIVER AND HARBOR BILL. [ARTICLE]
RIVER AND HARBOR BILL.
How the Appropriations of This Great Measure Are Distributed. The river and harbor bill passed by the Senate the other day is the largest river and harbor bill in the history of the nation. It appropriates $75,000,000, of which more than $12,000,000 is for immediate use and nearly $63,000,000 for continuing contracts. The appropriations have been skillfully distributed among the States. New York gets the largest sum of the direct appropriations, but Illinois secures the largest authorization for the future, her share thereof being over $6,000,000, or one-tenth of the whole.
