Where Tea is Not Popular.
If you call for tea at a restaurant In Caracas, the proprietor will send to the nearest drug store for it, and express a regret that you are ill. The native Venezuelan regards tea as a most unpleasant beverage, and to be used only medicinally. It is not kept in any of the hotels, and when it is especially ordered the quality is simply abominable —for all the world like a dose of senna. In one season the rice yield in the Rangoon Province of India has exceeded 1,000,000 tons.
