A Novel Raft.
In the valley of Bengal a curious means of travel is resorted to during the periodical rains. This is a raft constructed by tying together bamboo poles and supporting them on four oi more pitchers, which are kept in place by cords. These pitchers are of earthenware or copper, spherical in form, with short necks and funnel tops, and are in gefleral use for drawing water from the rivers and ponds.
