The Superfluous Guest.
Sailing vessels In the Australian trade frequently carry only one or two passengers, who share the saloon with the captain and chief officer. Aboard one vessel tfoerq was ( once only ono passenger ahd t}je captain and mate generally contrived to get the most and best of what waa on the table. One day there was a rolypoly pudding, with sweetmeats in the middle. “Do you like puddih’ends, sir?” asked the captain. ‘‘No, I don’t like puddin’-ends, sir,” said the guest. “Wells me and my mate do,” said the captain, cutting the pudding in two, and putting one-half on the mate’s plate and the other on his own.
