Spain’s Juvenile Ex-Queen.

Princess Mercedes, of Spain who is now in her thirteenth year, enjoys tho altogether exceptional distinction, for so young a girl, of being an ex-queen. Her littlo brother, the present king of Spain, was not born until over six months after the death of his father, tho late King Alfonso XII., and during those six months Maria do las Mercedes held the rank of of Spain. On the appearance of her baby brother she was obliged to stop down from the throne and surrender tho title of queen and of majesty, assuming in thoir stead that of Princess of tho Asturias. The title Prince or Princess of tho Asturias is invariably borne by the heir apparent to the throne, just in the same way as the title of Prince of Wales is borne by the eldest son of the ruler of Great Britain. Princess Mercedes is a very clever little girl, with all tho self possession, the gravity and the sedateness of a Spaniard.
