Effect of Smoking on Bo ys.
One of the medical journals records the observations of a physician, who has been investigating with great minuteness and accuracy the effects of smoking on boys. He took for this purpose thirty-eight boys from nine to fifteen years, and carefully examined them. In twentyseven of the number he discovered injurious traces of the habit. In twenty-two there were various disorders of the circulation and digestion, palpitation of the heart, and a more or less taste for strong drink. In twelve of the cases there occurred frequent bleeding o£, the nose, ten had disturbed sleep, And twelve had slight ulcerations of me mucous membrane of the mouth, which disappeared on ceasing the use 1 of tobacco for some days. The Do&tor treated them all for oweakness, butt with Tittle effect, until; the smoking was discontinued, when heiltb and strength were soon restored.
