Another substitute for gutta perch* has been discovered in South America, being in the form of a fluid of solidifying properties. It is insoluble in water, and hardens and softens with cold and heat. It will retain any molded shape, can be cut into very thin sheets, and will take the minutest impression upon its surface. It is derived from a plant growing wild, in the Coneau district.
