He Was Successful.
On one occasion Calverly, the celebrated poet, was showing some ladies over Balliol College. Ho had shown them everything of interest in the college, and was hesitating where to take them next, when a friend dared him to show his friends the Master of Balloil. An audacious thought struck Oalverly, and turning round to the ladles, he asked: “Should you like to see the Master of Balloil himself?” They said they would be delighted to see the Master, who, as everybody knows, of all Oxford “pots" is tho most tremendous. Calverly picked up a handful of gravel and threw it against the Master’s drawing-room window. Very soon the Master himself threw up the window, and looked out, red ana angry at this unspeakable outrage. “There, ladies, said the bold undergraduate, “is the Master of Balloil himself?”
