Ex-Congressman Patton, of Indiana, who used to represent the Tenth district, which adjoins South Chicago, in congress, has been appointed and confirmed as receiver of public monies at Woodward, Oklahoma, The salary is three thousand per year. The people of Calumet region are under great obligations to Dr Patton, for getting through the bill to oontinue the imp ovemeni of the Calumet river, when onr own Congressman Abner Taylor, stubbornly refused to do snything.Mr. Boby of the East Side furnished Congressman Patton the ammunition to use; he fought a good fight and won, tho’ Blanchard, chairman of the committee on rivers and harbors, was opposed to a continuation of the improvement of Calumet river. We congratulate the doctor on his recognition by Grover Cleveland and hope to see i im in the United States senate as senator from Oklahoma, when the state ia admitted to the union. There is no question of ex Congressman Patton’s sterling democracy, and being an old soldier he may have much to do in forming democratic sentiment in Oklahoma, whloh is largely populated by old soldiers. In common witk the people of the Ca nmet region, the Daily Calnmet congratulates the dootor that his lines have fallen in pleasant places. Indiana’s loss will be Oklahoma’s guin.—Chicago Daily Calumet.
