A New Lifeboat for the Navy.

Captain Schemmerhorn, of New York, has invented a new style of lifeboat of the folding fashion, which he hopes to have adopted by the Navy Department for use on board our war ships. The captain baa called at the department and explained his invention to the bureau chiefs, who are much impressed with his boat, and will consider its good points again with a view to determining its fitness for the naval service. The boat can be easily stored away on shipboard, os it folds up after the fashion of a steamer chair, and can be quickly made ready for launching in an emergency. The navy has yet been unable to discover a lifeboat that quite fills the bill.—[Atlantic Journal.
