Protection Dies Hard.

Only foolish persons, who do not understand the power of organized capital and the blood-thirstiness of tariff-protected monopolies, imagine that “protection” is dead In this country, and that there will not be more hard fighting before the protected manufacturers put up the white flag. The people won a great victory over the allied forces of greed and corruption on November 8, but another desperate struggle will come when the “free-traders” frame their tariff bill and put it into operation. The ridicule, abuse and lies that will be heaped upon the measure by the irate manufacturers and their political allies will put all of their past efforts in the shade. It is probable, howover, that, with such good men at the helm and old tars on deck, but little attention will be paid to the false statements of the pirates on hoard who would sink the ship of state that they and their allies might secure tho cargo. That the protectionists are rallying their whipped and badly disorganized forces for at least one more desperate battle is evident from the following letter sent out, under date of Feb. 23, by tho American Protective Tariff League. Peak Sib—Many of our friends have expressed the conviction Unit more work by worUlnkmen In favor of a protective tariff will have to he done In the future.
